In fifth grade, Tseganat Abebe got some very unwelcome news – her grandparents were arranging a marriage to a 26-year-old man, without her consent. But Tseganat happened to be a peer educator with the Her Future, Her Choice project, (partnership with @Oxfam) and she had received training on sexual and reproductive health and rights – as well as ‘assertive communication,’ just the year before. Read about how Tseganat organized her entire community to prevent her early marriage – as well as those of her friends! #InternationalYouthDay https://lnkd.in/eZbtg96W

We are deeply saddened by the severe floods hitting Bangladesh right now. The floods have affected eight districts, leaving over 3 million people stranded, with Feni and Noakhali being the hardest hit. In a tragic incident, a pregnant woman in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria, lost her life when floodwaters rushed into her home, highlighting the urgent need for prioritizing disaster preparedness. We must improve early warning systems; build resilient infrastructure; and advocate for stronger climate action plans that consider the needs of women, girls, and other marginalized groups. These are exactly the types of initiatives we're working on in Bangladesh through our Takeda-funded program. Earlier this year, our program conducted a study on the ability of health facilities to withstand and provide services through climate-related shocks and stressors. The study found that many health facilities struggled to provide essential services, particularly those that are crucial for women’s health and well-being—like family planning, maternal and child health, and gender-based-violence services. The recent floods have worsened the situation, causing 52% of these health facilities to close. Pathfinder Bangladesh stands ready to help communities better withstand future climate events.🌍 #ClimateAction #DisasterPreparedness #BangladeshFloods #TakedaGlobalCSR https://lnkd.in/gXSfTEfU

We are feeling so proud and inspired by this week’s success of the Regional Parliamentarians’ Meeting on Gender Empowerment for a Green Economy. Organized by the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) in collaboration with Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination and Pathfinder. This landmark event brought together a diverse group of parliamentarians, leaders, and stakeholders. We showcased innovative solutions and best practices that integrate gender considerations into green economy initiatives, paving the way for impactful policy development. The convening fostered strong partnerships among regional parliamentarians, international organizations, and civil society, working to boost all of our efforts towards gender-responsive environmental governance. Participants engaged in dynamic discussions to craft gender-sensitive policies and frameworks, and our sessions were designed to build the capacity of stakeholders to advocate for and implement inclusive environmental policies. The group developed the Islamabad Declaration that articulates a unified commitment to advancing gender equality and climate action. Developed through collaborative dialogue among over 300 participants from diverse sectors and countries, the Declaration outlines actionable strategies for empowering women and integrating their voices into decision-making processes, aligning with the goals of ICPD30. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event a significant step towards a more equitable and sustainable future. #ClimateChange #MinistryofClimateChange #PathfinderInternational #GreenerEnvironment #GenderEmpowerment #GreenEconomy Tabinda Sarosh Lydia Saloucou Mohamed Abou Nar Madiha Latif Ali Asghar Javed Satti. Pathfinder DRC has taken a crucial step in ensuring equitable access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services for deaf adolescents and young people in Kinshasa. The team has successfully trained healthcare providers in Congolese Sign Language as part of our Packard Foundation-supported project Empowering Youth to Lead Healthy Sexual and Reproductive Lives in Kinshasa. By equipping providers with this essential way to communicate effectively with deaf patients, we're ensuring that young people with hearing disabilities can access the care they need with dignity and confidentiality. Making sure they can speak directly with their doctors, without needing their parents or interpreters in the room. This training was the first of its kind in the area and is a significant step towards a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system for all. One key to providing youth with the best care? Meeting them where they are at! That’s why Pathfinder’s work with Oxfam on the Her Future, Her Choice project includes creating “health corners” at schools – so students can get care where they need, and ask questions in a non-judgmental environment. Pedro, a student at Mocuba Secondary School, agrees! “I liked how the nurse explained and responded to my doubts, and I also liked [the talk she gave to the students]. Here inside the school, I receive counseling, and we also have access to condoms to prevent pregnancy.” https://lnkd.in/eZbtg96W

Interim CEO @Pathfinder International | Women's Health and Empowerment

What an incredible few days it has been! I had the privilege of meeting distinguished delegates from around the globe and learning about the remarkable work they’re doing in their regions. Celebrating International Youth Day and coinciding with my own country’s Independence Day added a special touch to the experience. The energy and motivation were palpable, and it was inspiring to see a strong focus on gender empowerment throughout the discussions.   We all made well intentioned promises at the ICPD and have come a long way, thanks to continuous parliamentarian support from the region.   I'd like to thank the Ministry of Climate Change Pakistan, Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development, Honorable Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Honorable State Minister of Japan Toshiko Abe, Honorable Romina Khurshid and of course my dedicated Pathfinders for an excellent series of inspiring sessions.   I’m leaving this event energized, with actionable insights and a renewed sense of hope. Happy #InternationalYouthDay! Today, we celebrate the incredible power and potential of young people around the world! They are already transforming our world and shaping a healthier future. This year's theme, "From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development," highlights the crucial role young people play in the digital age. With 75% of young people being internet users, they are leading the charge in innovation and adoption of digital tools. While digital health offers incredible opportunities, ensuring equitable access and tackling digital security concerns is crucial. We can't leave anyone behind! Addressing gender-based disparities in access to technology is essential. Girls and young women are more likely to lack access to mobile phones and the internet, limiting their reproductive choices. Pathfinder's Commitment: Her Future, Her Choice. Our "Her Future, Her Choice" project in Ethiopia and Mozambique works to expand access to sexual and reproductive health information and services for girls and young women. Tsenegat, a fifth-grade student from Ethiopia and a peer educator with the project, used her training to advocate for herself and prevent her own forced marriage. Read more inspiring stories of change at https://bit.ly/3YK9Dbj Let's invest in young people! Their voices and leadership are key to building a healthier and more equitable world. #YouthEmpowerment #GlobalHealth #SexualReproductiveHealth #HerFutureHerChoice
