Next week, Luke Tan will be answering the question: "How do we position the UK as a global leader in hydrogen technology?" at Hydrogen Innovation Initiative's Scotland Launch next Monday. HII's report, launched earlier this year predicts that through hydrogen technology alone, the hydrogen industry could drive up to 410,000 UK jobs and £70 billion in annual revenue to the UK. To secure this, technology produced in the UK would have to feed into 10% of the hydrogen opportunities globally.

Inspiring words from our CPO. We are standing on the shoulders of giants!
111 years of ammonia production in Ludwigshafen! The very first ammonia plant was started 111 years ago, on September 9, 1913 by the legendary Carl Bosch himself. Since then, an #ammonia production is running in LU and supplying the site. Carl Bosch would have turned 150 this year, hence, our “team ammonia” has two big milestone birthdays to celebrate. One of BASF’s very first ammonia reactors is still in use – as an exhibit. You can visit it, free of charge, in Ludwigshafen next to our fantastic restaurant "BASF Gesellschaftshaus". It was one of up to 20 reactors that were part of the legendary “Ammonia 1” plant. Ammonia 1 was in operation for 69 years, until May 1982. A CLOSER LOOK If you take a closer look at the reactor, you can notice rows of small holes. They are called Bosch Holes, they were one of his breakthrough #innovations. The steel jackets had become brittle in all the earlier ammonia studies and tended to break quickly. Studying the metal the Material Scientists Bosch realized that it was due to the #hydrogen that diffused into it. But how can you stop the tiny hydrogen molecule to diffuse into the metal? By allowing it to escape! A BREAK-THROUGH INNOVATION By allowing the hydrogen to escape through these small holes, Carl Bosch protected the #steel jacket and the reactor was stable. The idea was a game changer. And it was a true out-of-the box approach: to contain hydrogen, allow some of it to escape. Simply brilliant. Thumbs up for Carl Bosch, thumbs up for #science and for #innovation. #wecreatechemistry #sustainability #sustainable #chemistry #physics #chemicalindustry Dennis Fanelsa Anne Boel Rasmussen Marc Oliver Heilos

The biggest players in energy and chemicals (who are players who use hydrogen today!) are already spending real money on huge projects. The doubts expressed about the reality of green hydrogen and the potential of the market are unfounded. We don't need hydrogen in our homes or in our cars for electrolysers to drop the world's emission profile by over 20%. As always, electrify where it makes sense. Green hydrogen's happening where it makes most sense - fertilisers, fuels, bio-fuels, e-fuels, chemicals - heavy industry to follow! Shell yesterday committed to another 100MW on top of their 200MW Holland 1 which comes online later this year! https://lnkd.in/efMhs72V

High-Pressure Hydrogen: Straight to Business Operating at 220 bar and maintaining 95% efficiency, we're pushing boundaries for a reason: to truly meet the needs of industry. High-pressure hydrogen cuts out the middleman. No need for additional compression – our electrolyser delivers hydrogen straight to your application. This translates to massive gains in efficiency and cost savings across various sectors: - Ammonia Production: Traditionally, hydrogen needs compression before ammonia synthesis. Our system delivers it ready-to-go. - Refineries: Cleaner fuel production relies on hydrogen to remove impurities. Our high-pressure output streamlines this process. - Fuel Cells and Chemical Industry: Both industries heavily utilise hydrogen. Higher pressure from the get-go means fewer processing steps. We already have signed pre-commercial contracts in all of our target sectors, which could be worth over a £1billion through to 2032 to test and implement projects utilising our supercritical electrolysis technology. Efficiency you can count on Supercritical’s approach isn't about stripping away features – it's about honing the process to where it's already most effective. By simplifying the supply chain, we've not only reduced capex and boosted scalability, but our entire system operates at a staggering 95% efficiency (compared to the 50-60% range typical of traditional methods). Our supercritical electrolysis solution offers a scalable and cost-effective path to clean hydrogen production. By eliminating the need for expensive materials and complex setups, we can significantly reduce the barrier to entry for hydrogen across various industries.
