Last week, ICSI's Risk & Resilience Director George M. Karagiannis, PhD, CEM® discussed people's selection of and trust toward warning information sources at the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) Annual Workshop. ⚡Key takeaway: The preferred and most trusted warning information sources vary across countries, whereas warning recipients attempt to confirm warnings by seeking information from multiple sources and communications pathways. The presentation, co-authored by Gianluca Pescaroli and Sarah Dryhurst, drew from the findings of our project 'From perceptions to saving lives', funded by Lloyd's Register Foundation and implemented with UCL Department of Risk and Disaster Reduction (RDR). The project seeks to operationalise the World Risk Poll by conducting statistical analysis of the Poll data to identify factors influencing people’s confidence in disaster-related information sources and their level of preparedness. ➡ Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dGU5zJsN #disastermanagement #disasterriskreduction #earlywarningsystems #publicwarning
International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI)
Non-profit Organizations
Our mission is to make resilience and sustainability key to every decision in the infrastructure lifecycle
About us
The International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure identifies and addresses the biggest barriers to action that have prevented us from working together for a sustainable, resilient and inclusive future. While the engineering-inclusive organizations at the center of the coalition seek to bring the kind of practical, science-based and solutions-oriented perspective that engineers are generally known for, we recognize that engineering-inclusive organizations alone cannot solve the systemic problems that exist at the intersection of climate change, aging infrastructure, and underinvestment. A multidisciplinary, multi-sector, global coalition is needed to break down the silos that have contributed to our collective failure to adapt and mitigate.

Last month at the #Innovate4Cities conference, ICSI, in collaboration with the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), convened #engineers and #policymakers for a roundtable discussion addressing the critical task of scaling up adaptation finance in infrastructure. In the current landscape where climate change poses unprecedented challenges, effective collaboration between engineers and policymakers is essential for building resilient, sustainable infrastructure. Leaders from both fields gathered to explore how to bridge communication gaps, engage communities, and create financial models that attract investment for adaptation projects. This discussion was part of a roundtable series that is co-sponsored by Mott MacDonald and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and aims to bridge the gap between the engineering community and key decision-makers in adaptation financing, providing a collaborative environment to tackle some of the most pressing challenges around building climate resilience in infrastructure. ➡ Read key insights and takeaways from the discussion in this blog by Arabella Liu: https://lnkd.in/dXAdJmq5 #Sustainability #ClimateAction #AdaptationFinance #Engineering #PolicyMaking #Collaboration
