Can you help Neil raise £2,000 for cancer? The hard work gets even harder for Neil Whitaker today as he attempts to complete what is a ridiculously difficult challenge - he started on 1st September by running 1km and he's increased his runs by an extra km a day since then - and he's going to keep doing this until the end of the month - that final run (or maybe more of a stagger by then!!) of 30k will mean he's run 496km in September. He's doing this because he's committed to supporting those committed to caring for people with cancer at The Christie Charity . One of those people was his father. The Christie do AMAZING work both in supporting people and their families as well as in cancer research. Unfortunately, cancer will impact nearly all of us at some point in our lives, whether it's because we or someone close to us suffer from it. If you can spare any amount to help them continue their work, we would be incredibly grateful. https://lnkd.in/eUu8aG7X #runforcancer #496challenge #charityrun

Update............ I'm still going. Day 20 - 20k ran this morning and the real challenge starts now. Thanks for all the support so far, we are now over 1k raised for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust supporting everyone fighting Cancer. I'll need to dig deep for the next 11 runs - hopefully you can too with more support and we can get closer to 2k in donations. I really appreciate all the good luck messages and support so far from friends, clients and family. With purpose, discipline, consistency and determination I will get this challenge done! https://lnkd.in/euYYdJgi #charity #support #cancer #fitness #running TalentEdge

Managing Director - North West, TalentEdge - Executive Search for Finance Directors and CFO's

There’s been an exponential rise in CFOs making the move into fractional roles over the last 5 years. For finance professionals looking for greater variety and increased flexibility it appears to be the perfect solution.    But it’s not for everyone, and some CFOs while being excellent in permanent or full-time interim roles, don’t find a fractional role fits with their skills or experience in the same way and therefore struggle.    So what ADDITIONAL skills and characteristics do you need in order to succeed?    ✅Networking skills: To acquire clients, you’ll need to be good at both networking and “selling” your services – that ability to build relationships will also be essential when dealing with investors, stakeholders, and bankers.  ✅Flexibility: You’ll be working with multiple companies who will have differing challenges – you’ll need to be able to assess situations quickly and respond rapidly to a variety of issues.  ✅Understanding the entrepreneurial/founder mindset: Most fractional CFOs will work with founders – not always the easiest people to support. If you have only ever worked in larger businesses with CEOs hired for their leadership skills, it’s worth remembering that founders aren’t necessarily as financially or commercially minded. And often need a lot more hand holding!  ✅Technical adaptability: Be honest with yourself when considering your tech abilities. Often you’ll be asked to manage finances across a variety of systems - or none at all. If you struggle to adapt to systems quickly or are not adept at assessing/implementing new systems this can be a big issue.  ✅Autonomous decision making: Fractional CFOs work independently and must be willing take full responsibility for decisions made and results achieved without constant oversight from CEOs board members owners etc. ✅Willingness to get into the weeds: While you might be hired for your high-level financial expertise, sometimes you’ll need to be far more hands on than you would in a larger business. If you’re adverse to getting your hands dirty, fractional work is probably not for you.    At TalentEdge North we work with many brilliant fractional CFOs who have all of the above and more. We pair them with SMEs and startups that benefit from their experience, guidance, and strategic support. If you would like to find out more about becoming a fractional CFO or you’re a business who would like to find out more about how we can help you, get in touch with me to arrange a call.    #fractionalCFO #fractionalfinance #interimfinance #startups #startupjobs #scaleup #financedirector

I was really surprised at the results of my poll last week on the “right to disconnect” for workers. 48% of you who took part in the poll believe it should be included in a code of conduct and an additional 23% would go further and make it law - 71% from a sample of mostly senior/ top earner contacts who think we need we need to formalise the right to disconnect in some form!   I thought it would veer towards no regulation,  and I was wrong ( according to the husband that does happen occasionally 😊 )! I still wonder how necessary it is, and how practical it would be to include it in general code of conduct – we see the huge efforts many of our clients make to create an employee-centred culture (essential for attracting and retaining talent in what has been an incredibly competitive market for the last few years) and that includes being sensitive to employee boundaries. However many people in those businesses expect and are expected to be contactable outside of fixed office hours (particularly those in leadership roles) they are rewarded for doing so and arguably couldn’t do their role if they could only be contactable between 9am and 6pm. While I truly believe that employees should be protected from employers seeking to exploit them, I wonder if there’s another way to do that without the proposed sweeping and generalised reforms.

Day 11 - 66k down in total and 11k done this morning - the challenge really starts! 430k still left to go in Sept over the next 20 days with another 12k tomorrow. Reaching out to my network to get behind me and donate to a fantastic cause. For those who missed my previous post I’ll be running a total of 496k in September - starting with a 1k run on the 1st of September and then an extra kilometre per day for the next 30 days. It's safe to say everyday from now on (currently day 11/11k) is going to be tough and gradually getting harder and harder. I’m doing it to raise money for a cause that’s really close to my heart. I’m hoping, with your help, to raise money for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust based in Manchester. I know first-hand about the amazing work that The Christie does for those suffering from cancer and the support they provide for their families. My own father was treated there up until his early death from the disease 18months ago, and I saw then how they went above and beyond to ensure he had the best possible care throughout his illness. Unfortunately, I’m also close to others who are currently being affected by this terrible disease. So I’d deeply appreciate any donation however small so that together we can help The Christie continue their invaluable work in the North West. https://lnkd.in/euYYdJgi #charity #support #cancer #fitness #running
