About us
TGA Consulting Engineers LLP is an expert provider of professional design and consultancy services in the fields of Building Services Engineering, Building Sciences and Low Carbon design. TGA were established as T G Armstrong and Partners in Durham in 1962 and are now based in offices in Newcastle, Durham, Leeds, London and Stevenage. We currently employ approximately 50 staff, all directly employed in the delivery of building services and spread across all of our offices. Our experience covers many sectors including healthcare, education (schools, colleges and universities), leisure, commercial offices, historic buildings, museums and galleries, retail accommodation, laboratories, industrial developments and others. We work on a wide range of project types including new build and refurbishments, procured via traditional design team led commissions and via design and build contractors. As a wholly owned private limited liability partnership, each Director is actively involved in each project and is directly accessible throughout the course of all projects. Our engineers strive to understand the needs and expectations of the Client, and to create environments for improved performance, comfort and efficiency. Our success is born from our ability to adapt in a continually changing environment, staying abreast of the latest technology, legislation and, of course, by maintaining close relationships with our Clients.

Yesterday, TGA's Harry Ross attended the RIBA Sustainability Mastermind Air Tightness Workshop at Gateshead College, which focused on air tightness in building design for low-energy, low-carbon buildings. The workshop covered technologies and strategies to improve airtightness, emphasizing its importance, challenges that can arise and suitability of different strategies for projects. The presentation shown also included the requirements and ambitions of Passivhaus builds. Using the knowledge developed from the presentation, attendees participated in a hands-on session, working with various products and testing techniques. With a strong track record of working on historic and listed buildings, TGA's engineers and lighting designers have been fortunate enough to explore spaces that are rarely accessible. Recently, our M & E, Building Performance and Specialist Lighting teams have been engaged in projects across several of Newcastle’s most prominent buildings, including Newcastle Cathedral, the Theatre Royal and Grainger Market. Yesterday, TGA's Building Performance Consultant Sam Wright attended the Constructing Excellence in the North East Smart Construction Event 2024. The day featured various exhibitors showcasing their businesses and providing demonstrations of their products, which were also available to test out, to show how they can be applied to construction work. There were 3 clusters of presentations delivered - the digital presentations focused on how technology can improve project performance, the sustainability cluster of presentations discussed low carbon materials and the creation of a new ultra-low carbon cement, and the last set of talks focused on modern construction processes. This morning, several members of TGA’s staff began their Project Management Level 4 apprenticeship programme, which will be delivered by Access Training Limited over the next 18 months. Last week, TGA attended the Healthcare Estates 2024 - 8th and 9th October - Manchester Central, the UK's largest exhibition and conference dedicated to NHS Estates and Facilities Managers!
