About us

The ABP is the home and voice of Business Psychology. We help our members to improve relationships between people and the organisations they create, based on an evidence-based understanding of people’s behaviour. We do this everywhere. We run events (conference, awards, training, speaking), accredit relevant University courses, publish articles and books, moderate a LinkedIn group, support local networks and build partnerships with other associations. Why do we do this? Because when it comes to work, everything which results in success (employee and customer engagement, efficiency and productivity, profit and happiness) is the result of good practice using business psychology. Members include those who have an interest in and respect for psychology at work, whether a practicing Business Psychologist; a Student or Academic in this field; an HR, Learning, Resourcing or OD practitioner; or an Executive or Manager keenly interested in how psychology shapes them and their ability to lead and engage others. Domains of Practice: • Employee psychology • Marketing psychology • Consumer psychology • Behavioural economics

  • Join us on the 15th of November for our upcoming webinar - ‘Stop Motivating Your People! - Employee ownership as a reciprocation of leadership responsibility', with Trevor Hudson (MSc MABP FRSA). This webinar will explore the concept that responsibility, as most people experience it, is not a role or an action but a way of arising from mindsets. It will join up some of the spray-and-pray ‘self-awareness’ practices of recent times with far more practical activities designed to identify how we show up in conversations in ways that ‘get in the way’. It will be hands-on, practical, and eye-opening. Secure your spot today. https://lnkd.in/gUf-BF9R

  • In her latest article, Dr Dawn H. N. (ABP Vice Chair, Head of Accreditation, and Biz Psych Cup Lead) shares the ABP's response to the recent riots across the UK and how workplaces can lead the way in bringing positive change. "Like many, I and my ABP Board colleagues, have been upset and horrified at the scenes taking place across many of our cities and communities in the last two weeks. There is absolutely no place in our society for racial hatred or violence. In the immediate term, the safety of ethnic minority friends, family members, employees, and colleagues is paramount. Workplaces need to demonstrate sensitivity and support to affected employee groups. Is it necessary for them to come into the physical workplace at this time – what if they are afraid to travel? Are there wellbeing or other resources in place, such as Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) or Employee Resource Groups (ERG), where employees can openly express their fears and concerns? Is there clear signposting to these support resources? In the longer term, our workplaces are a microcosm of our society. Positive workplace changes can help to bring wider societal change, so what more might our workplaces do to influence this?"
