The first of its kind for our industry, the BRiM (Black Representation in Marketing) sponsorship program has been created to elevate and support Black talent in media and advertising, helping create a more inclusive and equitable industry. As proud contributors to the pilot program, it was great to be back for the launch of the second BRiM cohort with our new sponsors and sponsees this week. Thanks to Natalie Trye and The Avenir Network for pulling together such a great event, and to Dan Clays and Laura Fenton for sharing the importance of senior leadership advocacy and the positive impact this program has already had on OMG. We’re really looking forward to this year’s program and seeing how the partnerships flourish.

📣 The BRiM (Black Representation in Marketing) Sponsorship program is back! 📣 This groundbreaking, one-of-a-kind initiative is specifically designed for mid-level Black professionals in the in UK Advertising and Marketing industry to accelerate their careers and we are thrilled to announce we are the facilitation and training team of experts led by our founder and CEO Dinah Williams selected to deliver this important and impactful work. ❔ What is the BRiM Sponsorship program? Originally launched in 2022, the BRiM sponsorship program addresses the inequalities Black talent face in terms of sponsorship opportunities. Only % of up-and-coming Black employees succeed in winning sponsorship, compared to 20% of their white peers. That is why we have formalised the process with this program, encouraging leaders to make space so that their Black talent can take up space. 📉 What does the data show us? Only 1% of C-Suite leaders in the advertising industry are Black, and Black professionals are seven times more likely to face racial discrimination. The 2023 All-in census by Advertising Association reported over 30% of Black respondents are likely to leave the industry due to a lack of inclusion and/or discrimination experienced. Our program is about creating opportunities for groups that have been historically sidelined, not fixing faults. By empowering high-potential Black talent, we're driving transformative changes across the industry. 📍 Key Details & Features - Start Date: September 2024 - Duration: 9 months - Full-cohort training sessions led by experts - Tailored Sponsor/Sponsee pair activities - Comprehensive guides, tools, and resources - Success stories spotlighting brands and individuals - Networking opportunities This program is open to any organisation with a marketing and communications department or entities within the advertising, marketing, and media industries. We are immensely proud to announce in recognition of Women's History Month, we hosted our first sponsored event in partnership with BRiM (Black Representation in Marketing)! We held an intimate "In conversation with" Sophie Williams moderated by Dinah Williams, an incredible Author, Activist and friend. Discussing Sophie's newest book, "The Glass Cliff: Why Women in Power are Undermined and How to Fight Back". Sophie delivered an insightful and impactful keynote speech that explored what The Glass Cliff is, and the extensive research surrounding the phenomenon and highlighted recent examples of The Glass Cliff playing out. The Glass Cliff is best understood to be the phenomenon of women being appointed to leadership positions when a business is failing. Therefore, these women are not given an environment to succeed or thrive. It's crucial to understand this is a systemic issue and not the fault of an individual. Sophie and Dinah had a meaningful and moving conversation, discussing the effects of The Glass Cliff with intersectionality in mind and giving several solutions to overcome it. We would like to say a massive thank you to Natalie Trye for all your support in planning this event and for making the occasion run so seamlessly. If you would like further information regarding our future events, please connect and message our Partnerships Manager Toren Williams, to be added to our mailing list. Video credits to Albert Mensah.
