The Rebuild Site

Construction

Facilitating the construction sector to move from Take-Make-Use-Waste to a circular economy of Rethink-Reclaim-Reuse.

About us

We take surplus materials from construction sites and put them to good use. Our purpose is to encourage everyone to rethink how to better use materials, reclaim materials that are currently being thrown away or down cycled, and reuse as much excess and ‘nearly-new’ materials as possible, creating value in what is often treated as waste. The surplus materials we pick up go to community groups and charities to help with their building, gardening, crafting and repair projects. We also sell nearly new and surplus materials to trades and members of the public at reduced prices – perfect for those DIY projects. Currently around 13% of construction materials go directly to landfill without being used. By encouraging the reuse of existing surplus materials we are doing our bit to reduce waste and lower the amount of carbon used in creating new materials. The Rebuild Site was established in 2021, with our first depot shop opening in Carlisle in 2022. We have also set up The Reuse Hub in Wolverhampton in collaboration with ASAN Wood Saints, and will soon be opening a second depot shop in Cumbria, in Workington. We sell new building materials that have been rescued from being sent to landfill or processing. Our shops are open to both trades and the public. We look forward to working with you to decrease your skip costs, reduce your carbon emissions and deliver social value to local communities. • Rebecca Meechan can visit again! How lovely a post is this! We’re planning on hosting more visits like this in the future. It’s a great way to start looking at materials as a resource and not waste.

Circular economy like you’ve never seen it before ♻️🤩 my team had a tour of The Rebuild Site last week with the wonderful Emma Porter and we left on a high! Surplus materials are a problem in most industries - The Rebuild Site is a perfect example of what we can do to reduce waste and rethink how we manage materials. The warehouse is open for anyone to buy nearly new materials and they’ve got just about everything from paint, DIY tools, flooring, toilets, panels, palletes and everything inbetween 🧱 I’ve never seen anything like this and it fills me with joy when I see people and businesses coming together to protect our planet, give back to communities and challenge old ways of working 👏🏽 Can’t wait to see this place grow and inspire other organisations to take action 🌎

  • I need your help. Rebuild has a massive opportunity to create a facility that will enable us to start sharing what we are doing much more widely. We know there’s demand for this but we need help to make it a reality. Being involved would be great both for corporate social responsibility and as a brilliant team building experience. Story Contracting Limited and Sunbelt Rentals UK & Ireland have already agreed to help and there’s room for one more. Please like, tag, share and comment on the Rebuild post to give us maximum exposure. And if you want more details just ask.

The Rebuild Site is at a pivotal moment. After three years of growth and success, diverting over 8000 tons of construction materials from becoming waste, piloting the first construction reuse hub in the UK and winning multiple awards, we now have an opportunity to take our operations to the next level. Our plan is to create a flagship national training and research centre where contractors, local authorities, and community groups can learn how to set up and scale construction reuse hubs. We are seeking the support of industry leaders like you to help us make this a reality. With your help, we can drive real change in the construction industry by showcasing the practical benefits of sustainable practices and circular economy principles. This would suit a contractor or designer committed to sustainability and circular economy in the construction industry. We are looking for you to participate in a unique challenge to plan and construct our new training room using only reused or leftover materials sourced from The Rebuild Site in Carlisle. This project offers a fantastic opportunity for team building and contributes to your social impact. Your team will ideally manage the full project including designing and constructing the space and working together to document and measure the project's performance in terms of cost, carbon footprint, time, and quality compared to traditional construction methods. This initiative promotes sustainability, team work and will be a fantastic showcase whilst also providing a meaningful volunteer experience. Join us in this fun, innovative project and help pave the way for a more sustainable construction industry. There are also sponsorship opportunities available. If you want to make the most of this unique opportunity or to find out more contact emma.porter@rebuildsite.co.uk by the 14th March 2025. • Brilliant to see local authorities thinking about ways to reuse materials and make sure less is wasted. We were happy to partner with Cumberland Council to give this furniture a second life.

As part of the £3.3M Carlisle Library transformation, we have donated surplus furniture to The Rebuild Site CIC, supporting local community projects and reducing waste! These materials will be repurposed for building, crafting, and repair projects—helping charities, community groups, and DIY enthusiasts access affordable resources. The library revamp, funded by the UK Government’s Carlisle Town Deal will create a modern hub with new learning spaces, a children’s zone, and more!

Our #oldbury branch has recently donated a truck full of surplus stock to The Rebuild Site, a fantastic charity who work to reduce waste in construction and provide materials to community groups and charities to help with their building, gardening, crafting and repair projects. We're always happy to support our local communities and manage our surplus materials to ensure a more sustainable future. An inspiring day today thanks to you first to East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire) for the opportunity to lead this mornings session on Scope 3 and practical steps for #emission reduction. Focused on #resourceefficiency the themes discussed were about how to engage suppliers, staff and customers - not in ‘reporting’ - but in practical steps that are good for the environment AND good for business. Then on to an engaging afternoon at the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce Sustainability Conference (at the Rheged Centre) sharing experience, action and impact. Thank you to Lesley Robinson (Chamber) and John McAllister (Barclays Eagle Labs). Personally, I loved the resource efficiency examples. Reduce waste. For example, Emma Porter, Founder of ReBuild Site - using otherwise ‘waste’ building materials to be reused or repurposed. Also, The Yan at Broadrayne - hotel and restaurant - asking customers to pre-order as a way to reduce food waste by 50%. Yes, 50%. Surprise! It saves money too! Resource efficiency is good for the environment AND good for business. They said, today as in most presentations, I caution about ‘carbon tunnel vision’ and with this in mind want to shout about this event with Ian Bates at EMC Chamber in the new year focused on the ‘S’ in ESG. #people #impact https://lnkd.in/ecUck9VW

  • It’s still early days but is lovely to see the Rebuild Site in Workington setting off on the right path. The little space we have there is only a temporary solution very generously let to us by @the_cumberland whilst we get a bigger space ready. But it is starting to feel like a Rebuild. The people coming in are supportive and interested in what we’re doing. We are already seeing people bringing in donations of leftover building materials and we have already been able to support quite a few local schools and community projects (particularly with the shells). Next week we will have our first skills workshop (slate painting) and we hope to fill the places on it. And hopefully we will have news we can share soon on our plans. If you are in west Cumbria or know people there please come and follow the Rebuild Site Workington Facebook page, pop in and say hi or come along to one of the workshops coming up. The Rebuild Site is a community interest company that aims to reduce waste in construction by collecting useable materials from site and either selling them at a reduced price or giving materials for free to community projects. We’re temporarily in the old Cumberland branch on Murray Road, Workington. We’re open 10-4 Wednesdays. #itsnotwasteuntilyouwasteit #sustainableconstruction #choosetoreuse #reuserevolution #reducewaste #zeroavoidablewaste

  • We recently achieved 10,000 followers on Facebook, which is where we usually post about new stock coming in. To celebrate the milestone we decided to undertake a community project. Eastriggs school was the winning nomination and we will be sharing a video of the results soon. But before we do we wanted to say a big thank you to the companies that helped make the project a success. Sunbelt Rentals UK & Ireland, who are always helping us, sent a mini digger, without which we would never have got everything done. Story Contracting Limited loaned us a gazebo and sent two helpers. One an expert painter and one a plant operator (paired with the mini-digger was fantastic). And David Hardie Engineering Ltd provided the top soil. Huge thanks as well to the Rebuild team and volunteers who worked flat out all day at a DIY SOS style pace. We can’t wait to share the results.
