Our landscape team is thrilled to announce the successful submission of a planning application to Bristol City Council for the Little George Street Landscape and Public Realm project. In collaboration with JTP LLP, we crafted the landscape and public realm design for Dandara Living’s Frome Colourworks – a vibrant mixed-use development on the edge of the River Frome. This project will feature a 298-bed student residence, a community centre, and affordable workspaces, enhancing Bristol’s riverfront with engaging, accessible green spaces. Proud to be shaping Bristol’s urban landscape alongside such a talented team! #TheUrbanists #UrbanDesign #LandscapeArchitecture #UrbanPlanning #Bristol

Last month, Isobel Woolard, Sian Jones and Caroline Walsh from the Urbanists Bristol team enjoyed a lunch hour planting wildflowers at St Mary’s Church, Redcliff, in Bristol. The Redcliffe Temple Business Improvement District (BID)'s Tom Swithinbank organised the session, one of several volunteering events, to improve biodiversity and the planting quality. The Urbanists are working with the Redcliffe Temple and Cardiff BIDs on projects to increase the amount of greening and biodiversity, and this was an excellent way to provide some practical help and meet with the client, locals and other volunteers. #TheUrbanists #BristolCityCentre #Bristol #UrbanDesign #UrbanPlanning #LandscapeArchitecture

Great things happen when the team come together. We spent the day at Tiny Rebel in Cardiff (conveniently next door to our new office), mapping out our business priorities for the next 12 months. After some productive planning, we enjoyed a delicious lunch and had a blast with a fun pub quiz to round off the day. Collaboration and connection are vital to success; this day was a perfect reminder. By coming together, we not only sharpened our focus on the goals that will shape the future of the business but also strengthened the bonds that make our team so special. Here’s to a successful year ahead with this fantastic team! #TheUrbanists #TeamAwayDay #LandscapeArchitecture #Planning #UrbanDesign #EmployeeOwned

The Perth City Centre Development & Design Framework we have developed with Perth and Kinross Council has recently been approved by councillors as a draft for further consultation and engagement with local residents and key stakeholders. The Perth City Centre Development & Design Framework, backed by the insights of retail experts The Retail Group, presents a bold vision to build on the substantial investments in Perth over the past two decades. It is now essential that consultation and engagement get underway to explore what is liked, what can be improved, and what can be developed further. The Framework focuses on several potential developments and intervention opportunities within Perth City Centre, and projects spread over several development quarters, including Mill Quarter, Culture Quarter, Station Quarter, Harbour Quarter, and University Quarter. We look forward to the engagement stage, where we can discuss proposals in more detail and work alongside the community to progress the Framework further. #TheUrbanists #PerthCityCentre #Development #Design #Planning #ProjectUpdate

The Urbanists clients Cardiff Council and Transport for Wales have released new images of the first phase of the proposed Cardiff Crossrail project. The proposals currently under consultation are a draft and do not include all the details or design features. However, they do present the key fundamentals of the scheme that we’ve been working on. This allows the public to make their own suggestions on the design as part of the consultation process. It was a productive week last week for our planning team in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, as two planning applications were approved at the meeting of the September Planning Committee. For both applications, our client was Pembrokeshire County Council. The first applications was approval of reserved matters for 125 new homes (87% affordable) in Tenby. The design team was led by Mace as project managers and quantity surveyors and included Powell Dobson Architects Ltd. (lead designer and architecture), Hydrock (engineering), The Urbanists (planning and landscape architecture) and WSP (ecology). The project is critically important in addressing the local need for affordable housing in the county, but it is also a fantastic opportunity to create an exemplary high-quality residential development in an outstanding natural landscape. The client and design team have delivered on the opportunity, setting the foundations for creating a place for people and community defined by distinctive homes in a natural green setting. The application was unanimously approved. The second application was for highway and environmental improvements in the stunning village of Porthgain. The proposals shall ensure that the amenities of residents and business owners are protected during the peak visitor ‘season’ when visitor numbers are high while preserving the village’s unique character and ensuring ongoing sustainable tourism. Before managing the planning application, we also prepared the community-led masterplan that set the basis for the development now approved. #TheUrbanists #Planning #PlanningTeam #Pembrokeshire
