This week Thurrock Council has approved a new strategy that sets out a vision for art and culture in the borough which will see the council, communities and arts organisations working together to celebrate Thurrock’s culture and creativity to help create opportunities for the borough’s creative talents to shine. The Thurrock Plan for Culture 2025 – 2029 has been spearheaded by Cllr Valerie Morris-Cook, Thurrock Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Partnerships, and developed with the council’s cultural partners and creative communities to forge a shared commitment and direction of travel for culture and creativity. Cllr Morris-Cook said: “I am so excited that we have approved a Plan for Culture which sets out how we will help allow art, culture and creativity to flourish across the borough for the next five years. “It has been designed to harness the power of the tremendous creative communities we already have to create significant positive impacts for our communities. “It sees us at the council acting as a coordinator and facilitator for our cultural partners to allow them to use their talents and skills to activate places with cultural activities, celebrate Thurrock’s unique heritage, nurture local talent and open up the benefits that’s arts can bring us all. “Art and culture can benefit places, celebrate heritage and can be a huge benefit for people's mental health people, just by helping them open up their creative minds. “It is high time that we had a strategy which reflected that and helps nurture culture, fosters creativity, supports local arts organisation and helps us access the national funding that is available to further grow arts in the borough.”
