As #NeurodiversityWeek begins, we take this opportunity to celebrate the diverse ways the neurodivergent community approach challenges and solutions. In the world of design, it is critical to design environments that are not only inclusive but actively support cognitive diversity. Whether through sensory-sensitive spaces, adaptable layouts, or intuitive wayfinding, our approach is focused on creating environments that are accessible for everyone. Our internal neurodiversity group champion these principles, driving awareness within tp bennett and across our industry. This week, we’re amplifying their voices and exploring what neurodiversity means to them. Eleanor Winder "Humanity is neurodiverse, there is beauty in difference; it would be dull world if we were all the same and yet we are still trying to break the stigma that being neurodivergent is a negative! I've learnt that fully inclusive design is impossible as each person experiences and interacts with places and life in their own unique way, I feel that empathy is a necessity, I strive for a society that has enough empathy to accept all our differences, to adapt and create environments and communities that embrace this". Carys Blake ""Neurodiversity is the vibrant spectrum of human thought — a reminder that our collective strength lies not in sameness, but in the brilliance of our differences. Every act of acceptance and understanding sends out a ripple, shaping a world where all minds are valued and every voice echoes change". Lauren Dempsey “Celebrating Neurodiversity means supporting everyone and not just those who appear to fit the mould. It is embracing our differences and also challenging what the norm is. Growing up Neurodivergent was hard, but the world is starting to become more understanding and that is why this week is so important to me. Working in a design practice has also made me understand ways in which we can accommodate those who are neurodivergent by making slight adjustments to the environment around us." Sarah Thomas “Utilising and supporting neurodiversity allows us to become better people as well as designers. Being neurodivergent myself has provided a unique outlook on life and pushes me every day to be more accepting, patient and kindhearted. Being neurodivergent can sometimes be hard but given the right support it can be a real strength!' Melanie Zarins “I am always learning—about myself, my brain, and the unique ways others experience the world. I believe in embracing different ways of thinking with an open mind and an open heart. I stand for a world free of judgment, where we support and uplift one another, celebrating the strengths that make us all beautifully different” #Neurodiversityweek2025 #Neuroweek #Neurodiverse #Supportingneurodiversity #Neurodiversityatwork #Workplaceinclusivity #Inclusivedesign

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) is celebrated globally for its exceptional care for children. With a holistic approach to treatment, GOSH understands the influence good design can have on both physical and emotional wellbeing. Research shows that the design of a space plays a pivotal role in shaping the experience of those who use it. This is especially true in a hospital setting, which can often feel daunting and overwhelming for young patients and their families. Creating environments that foster a sense of comfort, security and calm is vital to alleviating stress. In partnership with GOSH, tp bennett is reimagining two play areas and the parent/guardian kitchen within the hospital's Gastroenterology (Squirrel) Ward, with the aim of creating spaces where patients and their families feel welcomed, stimulated, and supported. We asked our designers to think beyond traditional healthcare spaces, to provide seamless connections between areas that promote use while also offering moments of relaxation away from more clinical environments. These areas will give children a safe space to play and rest, while caregivers can find comfort and support in a shared kitchen space. The team exhibited their incredible ideas, and we’re excited to see how these plans will evolve to transform these areas into places of comfort and care. #hospitaldesign #GOSH #healthcaredesign #heathcarearchitect #wellness

Gascoigne West Phase 2 shortlisted as a finalist at the 2025 RESI Awards! Celebrating exceptional projects that drive innovation and promote sustainable development in real estate, we are thrilled to be shortlisted in this year’s Development of the Year category. Developed by Be First Regeneration Limited, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham urban regeneration company, designed by White Arkitekter and delivered by Wates Group with executive architect tp bennett, Gascoigne West Phase 2 provides 386 new homes, a community hub and a 1,500sqm playground. - This project gave us the opportunity to improve the quantity and quality of affordable homes for local people and enable a paradigm shift in how the public spaces are used; a move from estate to neighbourhood, says Linda Thiel, Lead Architect at White. Part of the borough’s broader transformation programme to create more affordable housing, Gascoigne West Phase 2 promotes Barking’s vision to become one of the greenest, most affordable and sustainable areas in East London. The development’s innovative approach demonstrates how urban regeneration can successfully balance design, community needs and environmental sustainability. - A powerful blend of architecture, sustainability and social responsibility, this project enabled us to deliver a scheme that demonstrates how thoughtful design and modern construction methods can create transformative, resilient and equitable communities with a real sense of belonging. Building on the success of Gascoigne West Phase 1, we are excited to witness the continued growth and vibrancy of this area in London, said Julie Wilmer, Director at tp bennett. 📸 Paul Riddle Photographer #residential #communityarchitecure #sustainablearchitecture #affordablehousing #modernmethodsofconstruction
