Flying is the most carbon-intensive mode of transport. And it is does not pay its fair share. With both Scottish and UK budgets under severe strain and public services facing relentless cuts, it's astounding that the aviation industry remains largely untaxed. Meanwhile, investment in sustainable transport—like buses, trains, and cycling routes—suffers, leaving people struggling to get to work or education. If we’re serious about addressing climate change and funding public services, it’s time to end the aviation sector's tax-free ride. Great report from Transport & Environment (T&E) tackling the common myth that aviation fuel cannot be taxed 👇 https://lnkd.in/ehU964TT

The Scottish Government is failing to meet the majority of its key commitments to sustainable transport. Our latest report shows that 7 out of 10 promises made to improve public transport and active travel over the past five years have not been met. Sustainable transport is not a cost, but an investment in: 👉 Tackling poverty 👉 Improving public health 👉 Reducing climate emissions Ahead of today's #ProgrammeForGovernment, we're urging the First Minister to reverse cuts to sustainable transport. 🚨 NEW: Scottish Government failing on 7 out of 10 sustainable transport commitments Today, we are launching our new report, ‘In Reverse’, revealing that the Scottish Government has fallen short on 7 out of 10 key commitments to invest in and prioritise sustainable transport over the past five years. Read the report: https://lnkd.in/eTXwdtCY Our analysis shows: ▶ 6 out of 10 commitments are OFF TRACK ▶ 1 out of 10 commitments is making SLOW PROGRESS ▶ 3 out of 10 commitments are making GOOD PROGRESS Key findings include: 🚍 Less than 6% of the promised £500m Bus Partnership Fund investment has been spent in its first three years. This impacts those who rely most on bus services—primarily people on low incomes. 🚶♀️ Active travel funding is falling short: Only £137m of the pledged £320m budget has been committed this year, failing to meet targets by over 50%. 📝 Read the full report and explore our #TransportTracker to see how each commitment is faring: https://lnkd.in/e_HB3yUH Ahead of tomorrow's #ProgrammeForGovernment, we’re calling on the First Minister to urgently review spending and reverse the damaging cuts to public transport and active travel made by his predecessor. The Scottish Government’s spending must align with its stated priorities of tackling poverty, growing the economy, and addressing the climate emergency.

🚇 Seeking a new home for an 80s subway carriage! 🚇 We're on the lookout for a piece of land to host a unique piece of history — one of Glasgow Subway's retired carriages! There's a great opportunity here for a subway carriage to become a fantastic community space, educational hub, or sustainable transport exhibit: https://lnkd.in/e5nq_b3p We're putting out a call to our network to see if anyone has land or knows of a location where we could bring this project to life (or store for a period of time). If you have any leads, ideas, or offers, please get in touch! Email: comms@transform.scot

What is the most climate-friendly way to travel? We break down the data in our latest article 👇 https://lnkd.in/esWHysDP Transport remains Scotland's top emitter, making our travel choices critical. While walking and cycling lead the way in low emissions, longer trips call for buses, trains, and trams, which significantly outpace flights and private cars in sustainability. We must see sustained government investment in public transport to ensure these modes are the easiest and most affordable options for everyone.

NEW: Freedom of Information requests reveal £83m (over a third) of active travel funding is still unallocated. This is very concerning. A funding shortfall means public health and progress in improving affordable transport options are at risk. Local councils need these funds now to enhance infrastructure and ensure safe, accessible walking, wheeling and cycling for all. Read more 👇 https://lnkd.in/eW6_s68X
