Head of Connected Mobility at Transport for the North & Smart Delivery Advisor to Scotland's National Smart Ticketing Advisory Board | FCIHT | CMILT
Excited to present how transport is embracing digital transformation at an multi-sector 'Excellence in Digital Transformation' event later this week. I'll speak to the industry's specific challenges and the current landscape of transport technology. The session will explore how we can lever targeted policies, invest in enabling connectivity infrastructure and deploy innovative delivery models to digitally enable networks and systems for passengers and goods - in ways that navigate the complexities of legacy infrastructure, complex regulatory frameworks, technical debt, and a diverse array of operational partners with varied interests.

We were eager to support the emerging #hydrogen economy in the city of #Bradford today 📈 Whether it's powering buses, trains or HGVs, we know that hydrogen could make up to 35% of final energy demand (Hydrogen Energy Association), so it will be an important part of powering our day-to-day lives. Our research with Northern Gas Networks and ERM shows the large potential demand across the North, and it was great to showcase our interactive, layered map at the event. It was also great to hear from our board members Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire and Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, who are passionately backing the green energy transition in #WestYorkshire, including the development of hydrogen production, storage and refuelling hubs ⚡ Speakers were keen to stress that Bradford has always had an industrial heart, and leaders in the region have been taking action to ensure that there's an effective transition to more sustainable energy, following the introduction of the Clean Air Zone in the city. Read our insights piece which outlines how we're contributing to strategic thinking around future demand and supply for hydrogen, alongside work around Electric Vehicle charging demand: https://lnkd.in/dsykZhNJ Find out more about the latest Bradford hydrogen development (Bradford Low Carbon Hydrogen): https://lnkd.in/dC4vEva9 Callum Reddington, Peter Cole, Rachel Ford, Lewis Kirkwood, Owen Wilson, Donna Newsome, Simon McGlone, James Jordan, Hygen Energy, N-Gen

🚆 We've been having exciting discussions at a recent event in Newcastle on smarter travel with industry colleagues, catapulting forward new solutions for the North! Matt Smallwood, Head of Connected Mobility, shared insights on emerging technologies aimed at simplifying travel payments, from pay-as-you-go solutions to barcode tickets. While the tech is exciting, Matt emphasised the importance of focusing on people first. He highlighted some of the shared systematic and pan-regional challenges, such as the pressure on local capacity to deliver complex systems, but stressed how we must prioritise initiatives that deliver tangible value at a local level and ensure easier access to seamless journeys. It’s clear that collaboration and innovation are key to driving smarter, more connected transport solutions! 🚉💡 Read Matt's latest insights piece on the future of smarter ticketing: https://lnkd.in/eYfe4bHJ #SmarterTravel #ConnectedMobility #TransportInnovation #SeamlessJourneys
