We were delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales to Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice this morning. The visit saw Her Royal Highness join children and families during a Stay ‘N’ Play session. The Princess then spent time with children receiving care at our hospice as well as their families and also met with bereaved families supported by Tŷ Hafan. At the end of the visit The Princess had her handprint taken which will now join the handprints of hundreds of children with life-shortening conditions and their families supported by Tŷ Hafan in the 26 years since we opened our doors. Tŷ Hafan mum Emily Taylor, bereaved mum of Violet, who spent time with The Princess today said, “It feels very fitting that The Princess of Wales - who herself displays so much compassion, empathy and kindness - would be the patron for a charity that possesses so many of the same qualities. It’s clear that the views from both parties are so aligned when it comes to supporting children whose lives will be short, and their families. “We were so excited to be part of Her Royal Highness’s first official visit and we were honoured to have the opportunity to talk about our beautiful daughter, Violet, and all that Tŷ Hafan has done for us. We are delighted to share the exciting news that Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales has today become Patron of Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice. The announcement was made as part of a visit to Tŷ Hafan this morning when we welcomed Her Royal Highness to our hospice, where she spent time with children, families and staff. Irfon Rees, Chief Executive of Tŷ Hafan, said, “We are deeply honoured that Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales has become Patron of Tŷ Hafan and it was an absolute pleasure to welcome Her Royal Highness to our hospice for the first time today. “As our Patron, Her Royal Highness will be an inspiration for children with life-shortening conditions and their families, our dedicated staff and volunteers and everyone who so generously supports us. “No parent ever imagines that their child’s life will be short. Sadly, this is the reality facing thousands of families in Wales. We can’t stop this happening, but together we can make sure that no one lives their child’s short life alone." We’re thrilled to share that Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice has today been recognised as one of the UK’s top 100 Changemakers by The Big Issue magazine and doubly thrilled to have been nominated by Gavin and Stacey co-creator Ruth Jones 💚 Tŷ Hafan is one of ten organisations to receive this UK-wide recognition in the Health and Disability category. The criteria for nominations for this category was: “When people are pushed to the margins by a lack of accessibility, who are the Changemakers fighting their corner?” Jenna Lewis, Director of Income Generation, Marketing and Communications for Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice, said: “When a child’s life will be short, Tŷ Hafan will walk alongside that family every step of the way through life, death and beyond. “We are thrilled to receive this recognition from readers of The Big Issue and we are very grateful to Ruth Jones for nominating us and all her fantastic support." There were smiles all around when Willow came along to her first Baby Stay N Play at the hospice with sister Ivy-Mai! ☺️ Willow was having the BEST time moving around in the fish bowl and enjoying lots of fuss from the Play Team 💚
