Building communities and relationships is at the heart of Tyneside Cinema. Our memberships are the easiest way for us to find our cheerleaders - allowing us to give them something back. For Friends of Tyneside Cinema, we offer exclusive perks such as members-only preview screenings, a dedicated newsletter, priority bookings on high profile screenings like the British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival and our Christmas Programme, MUBI subscriptions, and more. The money we raise from membership sales and donations, no matter the size, helps us continue to move forward with our charitable aims. We use this to give back not just through perks for our most loyal customers, but through initiatives that make the arts accessible to our next generation. If you're aged 16-24, our Young Tyneside memberships are completely free. This provides access to cheaper tickets and wider discounts on concessions. What's more, we're busy fundraising so that the educational work that we've been known for will return to the venue, so that we can provide pathways to careers in a variety of creative industries and the arts to young people in the North East, especially those from working class backgrounds. We've also noticed our Young Tyneside members are regularly visiting us to watch classic films, allowing us to offer a film education whilst celebrating the best in new international cinema. Remember, the Tyneside isn't just the home of cinema from around the world, but a dedicated charity serving our region and communities. #independentcinema #indiefilm #newcastlefilm #membership #community #cinephile #cinematography

"The cinema looks set to emerge from one of its darkest times into a new era of growth and success." Our Custodian, Nic Greenan, recently spoke to Jane Imrie of Pattern about the future of Tyneside Cinema. Alongside the impact of COVID-19, we faced challenging workplace issues. Now, almost 5 years later and with Nic forging our new path, we've created a fresh culture following a board overhaul and fundraising efforts. As we move forward into the next phase of Tyneside Cinema, our mission is to serve the wider community. With our home at the heart of the city, and our role as a melting pot for creatives across not just film but art, dance, food, and more, the Tyneside is able to bring communities together and offer unique experiences for people in the North East. Looking ahead, we aim to play a role in tackling the region’s challenges while continuing to champion arts and culture. “To have such a fantastic facility in the middle of the city centre that isn't bubbling with talent and young people is not right,” Nic added. Nic Greenan is helping Tyneside Cinema emerge from its darkest era. After controversies around sexual assault, bullying and harassment in the institution, and with the financial impact of the pandemic, this is by no means a small challenge. Thankfully, Nic feels like the person we’ve been waiting for to nurture the cinema back to its former glory. We sat down with Nic to chat about the issues she’ll be tackling, her experiences in the culture sector, and how her working class background has influenced her career path to this day. Featured in BusinessLive, we've shared an exciting investment update... Despite continuing to face financial hardship post-pandemic, we now have the support of property development group Hanro and commercial property agency Naylors Gavin Black - two indispensable assets which are allowing us to make overdue movements such as updates to our lighting. As the only news reel cinema still in operation in the UK, the revival of our Grade II listed building is imperative not only to our passionate and dedicated staff but to the safe community space we offer to those in the North East. While London is looked to as the only place to access film, as an independent picture house we are able turn that preconception on its head by hosting events like our British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival partnership and NFTs' GYNOPHOBIA: Monstrous Femininity in 70s and 80s Horror retrospective. Our funders are also allowing us to continue to move forward with our three major charitable ambitions: 1. Delivering accessible programmes that cater to our neurodiverse, hard of hearing, student, senior, and other valued audiences. 2. Aiding in talent development by creating a pipeline for working class young people to get into the industry. 3. Maintaining and investing in our rich history for current and future generations through free heritage tours, makeovers for our Grade II listed building and its surrounding areas, maintaining original features, reducing our carbon footprint, and further efforts. As we look ahead to the next chapter of our 87-year history, we're grateful for our local partnerships and funders. When you’ve outgrown trick or treating, how do you celebrate Halloween? For me, it’s all about the movie marathons 🍿 This year I had the incredible opportunity to be part of Tyneside Cinema’s annual Halloween All-Nighter, just days after starting my new role! Arguably one of the biggest highlights of the year, our team went all out and looked absolutely spook-tacular in their costumes 🪓 With five packed screens, including our elusive Digital Lounge, we presented a whopping 20 films from 9:30pm to 9:30am. Amidst capturing spine-tingling socials content and keeping an eye on our customers’ petrifying pictures, I managed to catch Texas Chainsaw Massacre II, Scream 2, and the 2024 release Late Night With the Devil. To compliment our showing of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, the Tyneside Bar Cafe offered Coop’s favourite cherry pie and a “damn fine cup of coffee” which help me last the night - alongside an espresso martini for good measure ☕️ Beyond the films and villainous vibes, it was wonderful to connect with my amazing colleagues outside of the office. A massive shoutout to the entire team for making this event happen! With my commemorative tee, designed by Jem Solley, I’m ready for more spooky season screenings - from the upcoming Heretic to ‘80s classic The Hunger 🎟️ Check out our upcoming programme via the link I’ve dropped below 👀 #halloween #cinema #SocialMediaManager #marketing #film

What’s your favourite scary movie?👻🩸 Well, there was quite the selection last night at the legendary Tyneside Cinema All Nighter! A notoriously wild night of spooky film and fun and an incredible team effort to pull together and deliver this much treasured event in Tyneside’s annual calendar. 5 packed out screens, 20 films from retro VHS, mystery choices, 35mm to 4K remasters and a whole lot of tactical Espresso Martini’s shaken at the bar - it’s what we do best! This year, for the first time since I began working at Tyneside, I had the pleasure of attending instead of working the event, as Mia Goth’s Pearl (with my colleagues Georgia Hardwicke as X, Sarah Young as Maxxxine and Emily Duff as ‘red dress’ Pearl!) Shout out to the team who worked long into the night looking after everyone so well, alongside those involved in planning, introducing films and projecting them. It was an absolute blast! Now to sleep, get the remnants of fake blood from my skin and look forward to our next marathon event - The Twilight Saga Marathon on 23rd November. Don’t miss out, spider monkeys! https://lnkd.in/eeztn_8z
