New course available to enhance patient safety through human factors training. ‘Human Factors in Healthcare’ is a course designed to improve patient safety by addressing the human elements that contribute to errors in healthcare settings. Written by Prof. Rob Galloway, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at UHSussex. The course, which runs from September 2024 to July 2025 across different locations in Sussex, covers a range of topics including the principles of human factors, cognitive biases, and practical tools to enhance individual and team performance. Our emergency team at Princess Royal Hospital has been shortlisted for two HSJ Awards for their outstanding efforts in transforming patient care. The team has introduced several key innovations and significantly enhanced patient safety and improved patient flow. They are shortlisted for the ‘Patient Safety’ and ‘Performance Recovery’ awards. Didi started at the Trust after applying for a maternity care assistant job. After working her way up and becoming a qualified midwife she is now a community midwife and also specialist communications midwife. She is responsible for keeping our maternity colleagues and parents in the know with service updates and running the maternity social media channels (@uhsussexmaternityservices). “I love the NHS, I’ve always been passionate about care being free for everybody.
