This week, I’ve been speaking with Clara Todd of Water Sensitive Cambridge, who reminded me that when considering ecology and biodiversity, we must work at all scales. "It’s essential to think about ecological systems not just at the planetary and regional levels, but also to zoom in—examining them on a very small, local scale. These intricate, small-scale interactions are just as crucial as the broader picture; like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, they all fit together, and one cannot function without the other." I share ACAN’s concerns about the ecological and social implications of the proposed Planning and Infrastructure Bill (https://lnkd.in/eVZ_-FVq). This bill promotes centralised biodiversity management through the Nature Restoration Fund—a levy developers pay into—rather than requiring them to assess the ecological impact of their individual projects. This approach overlooks the critical local scale of biodiversity and risks further sidelining it. We are in a climate and biodiversity emergency—this must be addressed!
