UK Music's Chief Executive Tom Kiehl speaking on the importance of grassroots venues, rehearsal spaces and studios to the music industry's talent pipeline, and how we need more music teachers to ensure that all children have access to a music education. "Last year, music tourism spending increased by 21%, generating a total of 8 billion across local economies, a fantastic achievement. "It's worth remembering, however, that there wouldn't be any music without music creators. "Singers, songwriters, musicians, producers, sound technicians, and everyone else in our industry needs to learn their craft and hone their skills. "The opportunities for many artists are becoming increasingly squeezed with continued problems for music venues, studios and rehearsal spaces, and we need an army of new music teachers to help nurture our talent pipeline on which the music industry relies." With Government consulting on copyright and AI, it is vital the songwriters, artists and music companies at the heart of our £7.6 billion industry are protected. We have been speaking with Government and the media to ensure this message is heard loud and clear. This weekend, we supplied comments from our Chief Executive Tom Kiehl to the BBC, who was quoted alongside Sir Paul McCartney, as the Beatles' legend claimed creators are at risk of being “ripped off” by AI companies. You can read Tom and Sir Paul’s comments here: https://lnkd.in/e7RVv88N We also outlined our vision for what is required to protect artists in an exclusive Music Week article from Tom Kiehl here: https://lnkd.in/e83zvpmB In a special meeting in Westminster, six APPGs came together to discuss the subject, with Tom voicing our concerns over the current Government consultation. You can read what he had to say here: https://lnkd.in/e_UNf5y3 And this week, we published an insightful Q&A with UK Music experts Florian Koempel and Dougie Brown explaining what the Government’s plans for AI could mean for the industry. 📢 The Government's AI and Copyright Consultation is now open - and it's crucial for the future of UK music. The creative industries generate £125 billion annually, with music contributing £7.6 billion. But proposed text and data mining (TDM) exceptions could allow AI to use creators' work without permission or payment. We're calling on everyone who cares about music to help protect copyright laws and demand transparency from AI developers. The current licensing system works - let's not undermine it.
