📰UKTIN In the News 📰 Earlier this month we welcomed journalists to the Smart Internet Lab in Bristol for our media launch of UKTIN’s R&D Discovery Toolkit. Here's some of the highlights of what the media had to say about the toolkit 📣 Telecoms Review Europe: “Prof. Dimitra Simeonidou, UKTIN’s Lead for UK Research Capability, emphasised the importance of a central platform to make it easier for companies to navigate the UK’s telecom landscape, and the new AI-powered Discovery Toolkit serves this purpose.” Telecoms Reseller: “Powered by AI, the toolkit instantly summarises vast amounts of data and delivers actionable insights – such as potential companies in which to invest or university research groups working in a specific area.” eeNews Europe: “UK telecoms has historically been difficult to navigate. The problem is that the complex sector suffers from dispersed data across numerous sources, making it challenging for professionals to stay updated on industry and academic developments, trends, and opportunities. The toolkit addresses this critical gap by consolidating fragmented information into a cohesive, user-friendly platform.” Capacity Media - a techoraco brand: “The toolkit is designed to be easy to use, leveraging large language models, including Google’s Gemini family of models, to summarise vast amounts of data to provide insights into potential telco-relevant applications.” Telecompaper “The toolkit, developed by the University of Bristol, provides free and easy access to research and public information across the UK telecoms industry.” Telecom Reseller: “UKTIN will continue to develop the toolkit based on data and feedback on the experiences of live users. These insights will lead to ongoing and iterative improvements to ensure the toolkit continues to address the sector’s evolving needs.” Dimitra Simeonidou, FREng, FIEEE Find out more about the toolkit here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e-gPiBCV

Building skills and capabilities 🌠 Welcome to our latest young ambassadors from Nokia 👷♀️ 👨💻 One of the remits of UKTIN is to build the skills required to drive telecoms innovation now and in the future. We know a career in connectivity offers exciting opportunities to shape society and scope for lifelong learning. However, the UK telecoms sector is suffering from an ageing workforce, where 60% of the engineers are over 50. With connectivity touching every aspect of our lives it’s clear we need to ensure more young talent enters the sector. The UKTIN Talent Advisory Group [TAG] comprising of over 120 members from industry, academia and training have come together to create and spearhead the Connectivity Young Ambassadors programme. We’re pleased to announce and welcome our latest young ambassadors from Nokia. Introducing Rhys Thomas a Network Engineer and Nikki Lamboura a Project Manager. Both ambassadors are super keen to help young people like them take the leap into connectivity. As Nikki says “The apprenticeship enabled my transition from Hospitality to Tech. In the ever-evolving telecommunications industry, I’m constantly challenged to learn and adapt. I value collaborating with a global team, all working towards a shared goal. Most importantly, I take pride in being a part of creating essential systems that power the world’s communication systems.” If there are young people in your company who are passionate about what they do and would like to influence more young people to enter the sector, we’d love to hear from you.
