"Not everyone is as they appear. People can be the most confident person on the outside, but on the inside have problems with their confidence and self-esteem. Everyone’s so different" Resident Ambassadors are a core part of our resident wellbeing initiatives. No-one can understand a student better than another student. And we understand it can be easier to talk to a peer, that one of our members of staff. In the run up to World Mental Health Day (10 October) we re-sharing our chat with Izzy, one of our Resident Ambassadors in Manchester. https://lnkd.in/eRhPauZE

If you've recently waved goodbye to a child leaving for university for the first time, or have done in the past, you'll understand what it feels like. Empty Nest Syndrome is a thing. It affects many parents. To help, we've created a handy guide for parents. We get it. It's not easy. We have parents working for us, and we've seen parents drop their young people off in our properties over the last 30+ years. Included in the guide are ten tops tips from Dr Dominique Thompson, as well as our own team members, along with other useful information and support tools. Tip 1: Find a new purpose Tip 2: Establish new routines Tip 3: Address sensory loss The other tips are available in our guide: https://lnkd.in/eeBk9N5J

“It’s hard. It is like losing somebody, even though they’re coming back.” Empty Nest Syndrome can hit some parents hard. We've previously asked parents how they feel when their young person leaves home to go to university for the first time. Our survey found 98% are left feeling a sense of real grief. It's tough. Our teams understand that feeling. And we've got 30+ years of experience in helping students settle into their new homes. Some of our colleagues are also parents. Here Joe Lister (Chief Executive), Tonia Lewis (Finance, Risk & Assurance Director), Amanda Morby (Brand Manager) and Helen Arber (Head of Operations at Unite Foundation) share their experience of empty nesting. Download our parents guide to empty nesting, here: https://lnkd.in/eeBk9N5J It includes helpful tips from expert from, Dr Dominique Thompson, and our own colleagues. Plus, additional information and support tools for parents
