More than two years on from launching our successful 'More than a Room' campaign, it's amazing to see the continued influence and connection it has with our audience (and beyond.)    Our students' stories are at the heart of everything we do. When it comes to telling those stories in a way that is heard, we let our audience lead the way.    Students never sit still; their motivations, preferences and how they want to connect with brands has evolved, and we're excited to show you how we're evolving with them.    #WatchThisSpace #StudentRoost #StudentRoostmarketing

This week toys donated by our team members from properties and head office were handed out to families at Walsall SENDIAS’s Christmas party, as part of Family Action’s Toy Appeal.   This year, we donated over 90 presents and more than £2,700 in fundraising to enable the team at Walsall SENDIAS to purchase additional presents for the families who use and rely on their services and support.   Walsall SENDIAS is a Family Action service which provides free, impartial information, advice and support on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to families throughout the Walsall area.   Thank you to all team members for your support and fundraising efforts and we look forward to supporting Family Action for another year in 2025. “Both my children enjoy attending events and really appreciate the gifts , thank you for our gifts we love them”   “Always such a wonderful event which is so inclusive, we love coming thank you for out gifts.”   “Lot of activities and things for kids to try, really nice to give presents”   “Both of children enjoy attending events and really appreciate their gifts.”   “Everything was just so lovely from the hair stylists, nail artists (which my daughters thoroughly enjoyed) beauticians (my son enjoyed would you believe). We loved the sensory tuff trays, building blocks, find the elves and adopt a teddy was a lovely idea (we have plenty so we left for others). The music was played at a lovely volume my son could cope with and the room was decorated beautifully! All staff members were so attentive, approachable and accommodating. The part I was most overwhelmed with was the generosity of the gifts and the care taken to make them just right for the individual child. Our gifts were just so perfect and the children were genuinely over the moon.”

  • The magic of Christmas lies in who you share it with.   We know that for various reasons, many of our residents will be staying with us over the festive period. This year, we’re ensuring no one feels alone or isolated over Christmas. We’re showcasing that celebrating Christmas at university is a uniquely different experience for everyone, while highlighting the importance of connection, whether with friends, flatmates, or in the quiet moments of self-reflection.   In the run-up to Christmas, our Resident Wellbeing and Marketing teams are providing our residents with accessible resources, signposting, and tips across 12 days, ensuring that all students, no matter where they are spending the festive season, stay connected and experience new traditions. Tomorrow, we're hosting a webinar with The Zen Project for all residents, exploring the subject of anxiety, how it manifests, and using breathwork and meditation to calm the nervous system.

  • Yesterday, some of our HQ team members gathered at our head office to wrap presents for Family Action's Toy Appeal. Our target was to donate 50 presents, alongside fundraising from our property teams, which would be sent to Walsall SENDIAS, a Family Action service which provides free, impartial information, support and advice on Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) for children and their families in the Walsall area. Over 90 presents were wrapped and delivered and we’re still seeing donations from our property teams come into our JustGiving page. Thank you to every single team member, not only for taking the time to get involved in such an incredible cause, but also for helping us to beat our target. You are responsible for putting a smile on the faces of families this Christmas 🎄

  • Two of our Marketing team members took part in the Ahotu Silverstone Run Festival at the weekend, in support of our charity partner Family Action. Aidan, our Campaign Executive, completed the half marathon in 1 hour 57 while Harrison, Social Media Executive, completed it in 1 hour and 42. They have surpassed their target of £500 by raising £670 for Family Action, and the donations are still coming in. Well done to both of you for your dedication, training and running in Storm Bert!

  • As part of our involvement in Family Action's Toy Appeal this year, our property teams have been tasked with fundraising, while our head office teams are on present purchasing and wrapping duty. Our teams at two of our Liverpool properties, The Railyard and Myrtle Court, have already begun their fundraising efforts! Slipping into something more river-worthy, team members will be running, rowing or cycling (indoors!) the length of the River Mersey (70 miles) to raise money for the Toy Appeal. Funds raised by our property teams will help Family Action services to purchase presents for families and children who rely on their support and advice, so no child wakes up on Christmas morning without a gift. • Earlier this month, Student Roost team members Pearse McKeown (Resident Wellbeing Advisor) and Rachel Lackey (Health and Safety Advisor) were invited to the House of Lords by youth gambling charity Ygam, to attend a reception hosted by Baroness Winterton of Doncaster to celebrate the charity’s tenth anniversary.   Overlooking the River Thames, attendees including the Scouts, the Children’s Commissioners Office and, of course, Student Roost, heard how the charity have supported families affected by youth gambling through their training courses and driving societal change around the stigma attached to young people gambling.   Since its inception in 2014, Ygam has trained more than 28,000 individuals working with children and young people on how to spot the signs of gambling in young people, how to open conversation with someone who may be struggling, and providing the correct support and signposting to anyone affected.   In 2023, Student Roost’s Resident Wellbeing Team introduced Ygam’s training to our property teams, and we now have a number of team members who hold a qualification and certification, issued by City & Guilds, in Awareness of Gaming and Gambling related harms amongst university students. We will be re-introducing this training to more team members in the 2024/25 academic year.
