Great to share we are working with Ethical Power on our Sambar Power BESS project in Cornwall. Ethical Power will provide Balance of Plant works for the 47.5MW project.

Varco are pleased to announce our collaboration with GE Vernova on the development of our 47.5MW (2 hour duration) Sambar Power battery storage project in Cornwall. At Varco, we are dedicated to investing in assets that accelerate renewable integration, sustain a resilient grid and drive consumer value in the UK. This initiative is particularly timely for the UK, as it supports the new government's push towards #netzero while injecting much needed investment into a crucial sector for managing renewable energy supply and demand.

We're excited to share that we have acquired the 47.5MW Sambar Power battery storage project in Cornwall. The project will connect into the transmission network at Indian Queens substation, with energisation targeted in Q2 2025. The project was developed by Carlton Power Limited, an established energy developer working in asset classes including battery storage, solar and green hydrogen. This site in southwest England joins Varco's wider battery storage portfolio, of which 114MW is currently under construction across two sites near Liverpool, which are due to energise later this year. #energytransition #batterystorage #bess #cornwall

We are happy to share that we are working with Ethical Power Connections, a high voltage power engineering and infrastructure contractor, to develop our first two UK battery storage assets. Ethical Power Connections will provide the Balance of Plant work and act as the Independent Connections Provider on our Native River (57MW/138MWh) and Sizing John (57MW/138MWh) projects. We are happy to share the news that we have chosen to work with Fluence on our 57MW/137.5MWh Sizing John project. This is an exciting project that will be one of our first battery energy storage systems in the United Kingdom, providing much needed new-build investment into a storage sector that is integral to balancing the flow of renewable energy.   Sizing John will be built at a substation in Rainhill, south of St Helens and will provide much needed support to National Grid ESO in balancing the power grid as more intermittent renewables come online. As well as participating in wholesale power markets to help load shift excess renewable energy into periods of peak demand, this asset will provide frequency and voltage ancillary services to National Grid ESO and support UK energy security through participating in the capacity market. It’s with great pleasure that we’re able to announce our partnership with GE Vernova for our Native River Project which will see the development of a 57MW/138MWh transmission connected Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) south of Liverpool. This is enough power to run the equivalent of 37,000 homes in the UK.   Working with GE Vernova will allow us to take our first steps in reaching our goal to build a utility scale BESS platform to help drive the energy transition forward.
