Available products include the popular Tikka Masala, Jalfrezi, Butter Curries and Tikka Kebab Skewers. 🍛 Commenting on the news, Matthew Glover – Veg Capital and Veganuary Co-Founder – said: “We are over the moon to see SHICKEN land this fantastic US listing, as part of their growing international business with Costco." 👏 Are you excited about more plant-based options becoming available in major retailers like Costco? Calderdale Council goes vegan! 🌱 As part of its strategy to address the climate crisis, the council in West Yorkshire has voted to only serve plant-based food at its events. The decision aims to promote sustainable eating habits and reduce the council’s carbon footprint. Although this decision will only affect up to 10 events per year, the move has sparked significant debate. Green councillor Elaine Hey called the decision "hugely symbolic" and "a significant act of climate leadership.” 🌍 What are your thoughts on this decision? The deceptive practices of meat and dairy companies have been exposed 😯 A comprehensive report by Changing Markets Foundation highlights how the world's largest meat and dairy companies use misinformation, greenwashing and political lobbying to slow down climate action. The report, titled "The New Merchants of Doubt," reveals how tactics akin to the tobacco industry have been used, including deceptive advertising to influence public perception, funding misinformation and lobbying against regulatory measures. Key take-aways from the report include: 🌱 Greenwashing is a common tactic as customers will pay more for products they think are sustainable and eco-friendly 🌱 Many meat and dairy companies avoid mentioning methane emissions in their communications about sustainability 🌱 Gen Z consumers are targeted through popular influencers and advertising campaigns 🌱 Meat and dairy industries have pushed for their educational materials to be introduced in schools to target young people The link to the full report is in the comments. Will European supermarkets adopt 60% plant-based protein targets by 2030? 🌱 Environmental group Madre Brava is urging European supermarket chains to adopt targets that would see 60% of their protein sales coming from plant-based sources by 2030. Major retailers like Albert Heijn and Lidl in Germany have already set ambitious targets, with Albert Heijn aiming for a 60% plant-based protein share and Lidl Germany planning to double its plant-based offerings. This transition is encouraged because plant-based diets require less land and water and emit fewer greenhouse gases. Despite these benefits, most UK retailers have yet to set comparable targets. What steps do you think supermarkets should take to promote plant-based proteins? ⬇ #Sustainability #PlantBased #PlantBasedDiet #VeganFood #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #FoodRetail (Image credit: AdobeStock)
