  • 📣🌏 The reputation of Leeds PIPES has reached international shores, with the Canadian-based Boltzmann Institute visiting the project as part of a European study tour to gain insights to aid in the expansion of Canada’s low carbon energy infrastructure. Leeds PIPES, being developed in partnership with Leeds City Council and Ener-Vate, has been recognised as an exemplar city-wide heat network that continues to expand. Reducing carbon emissions by nearly 6,000 tonnes in 2023 alone, the project is also giving back to the local community in a number of ways, from Climate Education sessions within local primary schools to supporting local initiatives like the Council's Hack for Good. Students from the University of Leeds Urban Energy Systems course also toured the project to enhance their understanding of low carbon networks and how they can perform at scale. 🌞 Powering a Greener Future: Little Hulton Solar Farm Case Study 🌱 Ever wondered what goes into creating a state-of-the-art solar farm? Our latest video case study takes you behind the scenes at Little Hulton Solar Farm and gives an insight into how we’re helping our clients move towards their net zero goals. The project has seen us install over 3,700 solar panels across 3.8 hectares to create a solar farm which is set to generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 800 homes. The project was delivered in partnership with Salford City Council, was part funded by the European Regional Development Fund, and is part of the drive for Salford and the wider Greater Manchester area to become carbon neutral by 2038. Find out more about the project: https://lnkd.in/ezggJ_P6 👉 Watch below to learn a little more about Salford City Council's fantastic decarbonisation work. #RenewableEnergy #netzero #solar

  • Follow us on a tour of our Birley Fields Energy Centre… We hosted 40 delegates from across Greater Manchester for a tour of our energy centre as we work with The Manchester Metropolitan University to create a sustainable campus and help them reach their net zero target by 2038. The project includes the installation of six 170kW ground source heat pumps and a 170kW water source heat pump, as well as replacing plastic pipework with steel pipes, futureproofing the University’s district heating network. Heat and electricity is then transported from the energy centre to numerous campus buildings and halls of residence via the district heating network. • Kalum Humphris-Day gives us the lowdown on our project with Westminster City Council 💡 In phase 2 of our project with the council, we are helping decarbonise 38 of their public sector buildings through the installation of energy conservations measures including air source heat pumps, rooftop solar PV, upgrades to the lighting, and more. In the video, Andrew Neave also explains how the project is being delivered through the Re:Fit framework, with an energy performance contract in place to guarantees savings, helping the council reach their target of net zero by 2040. Read more about the project and how combined with phase 1, the council's carbon footprint will reduce by over 2,000 tonnes a year: https://lnkd.in/eYPfu4p5 #netzero #decarbonisation #energyefficiency

  • Sometimes it’s the little details that make a big difference and we’re always looking for ways to increase biodiversity on our projects, from planting hedgerows and wild flower meadows, to digging swales, basins and ditches. Our team recently installed bird and bat boxes as part of the Swansea Bay University Health Board solar farm extension which we’re hoping will attract lucky residents in the very near future. If you'd like to learn more about the solar farm, you can read our case study here: https://lnkd.in/gPeJWWyr #biodiversity #renewableenergy #solar

  • Transforming a heat network project from concept to reality is a journey that can take years. That's why it's always a special day when the pipework arrives on site and our operatives can begin the installation process. Our team recently took delivery of the district heating pipework for Lot M4/M5 on the Eddington Campus! This phase will see the creation of additional dwellings on the campus, integrating them into the University’s central energy centre. Eight years ago, we installed the district heating spine at North West Cambridge. Since then, we've been working on its expansion, connecting more buildings in line with the development masterplan. The North West Cambridge Development is a visionary project designed to create a sustainable and vibrant community. It encompasses residential, academic, and commercial spaces, all meticulously planned to foster innovation and collaboration. We're proud to be a part of this transformative journey, contributing to a greener and more connected Cambridge. 🌍

  • 🏆 We’d like to congratulate our partners Leeds City Council and Ener-Vate after the #LeedsPIPES project won top honours at The Energy Awards yesterday 🏆 The project claimed the Energy Project of the Year prize in the Residential category and has demonstrated how cities can use heat networks to help reach their net zero targets, whilst making a real, positive impact in peoples’ lives by combatting fuel poverty through more affordable heat. Since beginning the project, the network has grown significantly to connect more homes, businesses and buildings to become one of the UK’s fastest growing, major heat networks. Just a few of the project highlights include: 🔶 30km of DH pipework has been installed to date 🔶 In 2023 alone, the project saved 5,945 tonnes of carbon 🔶 430 green jobs have been created 🔶 2,375 dwellings are currently connected to the network 🔶 17 commercial customers connecting 28 key buildings, including St James’s Hospital, Leeds Playhouse, and Leeds Beckett University 🔶 97.44% customer satisfaction achieved 🔶 Winner of 5 national awards for energy and decarbonisation We’re thrilled the judges saw the value of this project as an example for other cities, with the judges saying, "This is an important demonstrator of the practicality of district heating systems and hopefully a model that can be taken forward elsewhere. An excellent entry that hits all the right notes. A great mix of concept, realisation, data and outcomes.” We’d like to share this award with our partners, everyone who worked so hard to deliver the project and keep it running and the wonderful people of Leeds for their support throughout this project. #decarbonisation #netzero #heatnetworks #leeds #fuelpoverty

  • Exciting progress at Beam Park phase 6c! 🏗️ We're thrilled to report that our heat network installation is advancing rapidly and has moved ahead of schedule. This is a testament to the strong working collaboration between all on-site contractors, under the guidance of our client Vistry Group. We’ve been working on the Beam Park development since 2019 and we're currently installing DN200 twin pipes which will carry the low-carbon heating to connected customers throughout the £1 billion development. Beam Park is an ambitious regeneration project in East London, set to transform the former Ford manufacturing plant into a vibrant new community. The development will feature over 3,000 homes, along with new schools, healthcare facilities, and green spaces and this heat network will sit at its heart, delivering low-carbon heating to connected customers. We’re extremely proud to play a part in creating a more sustainable and connected future for Beam Park residents and look forward to its ultimate completion. #HeatNetworks #DistrictHeating #BeamPark
