We are pleased to confirm that the sale of West Burton B Power Station to TotalEnergies has today completed following satisfaction of all conditions to the agreement signed on 5th June 2024. We are excited to now be a part of TotalEnergies Gas, Renewables and Power Branch.   

West Burton Energy, today announced that it has signed a binding agreement to sell the West Burton B 1332MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine facility and the 49MW Battery Energy Storage System to TotalEnergies for an enterprise value of £450million. Chris Elder, Chief Executive Officer of West Burton Energy, said: “We are thrilled by the strong interest in this transaction from across the sector, and we are delighted by the outcome. Following completion of the sale, our ambition is to establish a world-class platform to develop, build, operate and optimise large-scale storage assets that provide essential flexibility to electricity systems.”

Exciting News - West Burton Energy's New Venture in Battery Storage We are thrilled to announce that West Burton Energy has acquired the Thorpe Marsh Green Energy Battery Storage project (Green Energy Project) from Banks Renewables. This project, located near Doncaster, UK, is one of the world's largest battery storage systems, and it's a significant step in our journey to a greener future. The Green Energy Project comprises a 1.4GW project (2.8GWh) to be connected to the national grid and a 50MW project to be connected to the distribution network. The project has the potential to power around 340,000 households for a day, improving the UK's energy security, storing excess renewable energy during periods of oversupply and release it when renewable generation falls short. This acquisition aligns perfectly with our growth strategy, allowing us to provide flexible generation solutions and we will now take the project through the planning process, construction and into operation. West Burton Energy is delighted to take over ownership of the Green Energy Project and looks forward to delivering this much needed project to ensure security of supply, maximise the use of renewable energy, and to re-use this former power station site. Last week, we embarked on an inspiring journey during National Inclusion Week, and what a week it was! - We engaged in activities that provided invaluable insights into the experiences of marginalised groups. - We created an 'I Am' video, celebrating the qualities that make each of us beautifully unique. - We made a pledge to ensure that West Burton Energy is a workplace where all voices are heard and respected. - Most importantly, we initiated conversations about diversity and inclusion that will continue to shape our future.
