For creativity and curiosity to thrive we need rest and inspiration. Be it recommending a book, a breathing method or developing a craft, this summer we are asking leaders to share how they are making the space to nurture their creativity and find their pace. In this edition, Jennifer Ashton & Oliver Short, Senior Creatives at Wonderhood Studios, demonstrate how they navigate through the summer months, by leaning into a slump. Experienced brand marketer

    * UPDATE! I have been overwhelmed by the response to my post. It goes to show how widescale the issue is. I have had many honest, vulnerable, heartwarming messages, giving me hope that social media is not a black hole after all, and I have been truly heartened by the time strangers have taken to support me and show solidarity. I hadn’t expected my post to achieve such reach, or I wouldn’t have posted it right before going on a family holiday, and just before my daughter starts Reception, in a childcare-less period of limited phone access! As such I hope (once again) that I’m not doing the “wrong thing” by politely asking for people to *stop sharing and commenting*, as I’m feeling overwhelmed at the task of keeping up, and sifting through the (very well-meaning) repetition of advice and recommendations. I have a few irons in the fire and lots of amazing advice to take forward, and a lovely little boost to my confidence. THANK YOU KIND LINKEDIN COMMUNITY! I promise to update in due course* 🚨 uncomfortable post alert 🚨 I never post on LinkedIn - so do excuse me if this is just not the done thing. This goes against my nature, feels exposing and awkward, but here we go. Gulp. I am hoping my network could help me out with what is proving to be a bit of a challenge… Finding a job. With 10 years’ experience in brand marketing with some great brands (Virgin, Uber Eats, Three UK to name a few), you might think this shouldn’t be *too* difficult. Yes, the job market is competitive, but it shouldn’t be much more of a challenge for me than for anyone else. The issue is, since I already have a full-on job with 2 quite demanding (emotionally unstable, always hungry for snacks, never satisfied with their Ms Rachel screen time allowance) young bosses aged 4 and 1, I find myself looking for a 4-day-a-week role. I’m determined to protect my 1 day a week with my baby until he goes to school in a few short years. While many mums returning after mat leave are able to negotiate some sort of flexibility, unfortunately when you apply for roles cold, 9 times out of 10, asking for this up front just puts you out of the running off the bat and you don’t even get to the HR screener call. I’ve been so lucky in my career to date to be recommended for most of my roles opening up a wealth of opportunities for me. If you know anyone who might know anyone who is looking for a senior brand marketing manager or similar, with a wealth of brand / advertising / media / comms planning / strat planning experience, who is equally happy leading as she is mucking in - I’d be so grateful if you gave me a recommendation or pointed them my way. I’m available immediately for 4 (v productive) days a week and I just need a little leg up to get me through the door! And if you don’t know anyone, please feel free to share or comment about how INCREDIBLE I am 😉 To all the mums and parents of young kids who are doing the juggle… I bow down to you! Heroes every one of ya.

Who'd have thought planning and parenting would have so many parallels?? Well, they do and Joseph Harris explains why they are, essentially, the same gig, and how we can take the learnings from one, and apply them to the other (though one may be slightly more messy than the other💩) https://lnkd.in/egjXMebX

IM LIVING THE DREAM !🤸🏾♀️🤸🏾♀️🥹🥹 ✨SIX WEEKS AT WONDERHOOD STUDIOS✨ Hi everyone! I just finished my six-week internship at WonderHood studios and my experience there has honestly been the highlight of my summer!!!! I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the vibrant world of advertising at a creative agency. This experience not only allowed me to grow my professional network and make lasting friendships but also provided me with invaluable hands-on experience in the industry. I am immensely grateful for the amazing staff at WonderHood, who generously volunteered their time and attention to ensure I had a meaningful experience. Many of them spent hours with me, creating an environment where I felt free to ask questions, engage in interesting discussions and contribute to their projects. Their support was instrumental in making me feel welcome and valued. One of the highlights of my internship was being entrusted with my own project brief, which I worked on independently and presented during the final week. This experience sharpened my creative problem-solving skills and deepened my understanding of the entire advertising process, from research to final execution. I had the chance to visit sets and production houses, gaining valuable insights into the behind-the-scenes aspects of advertising. No two days were the same, and each day brought new challenges and learning opportunities. In addition to my professional growth, I thoroughly enjoyed the office culture. Watching the olympics together on the big screen, lunches shared on the balcony, walks/coffees around Soho and joining the office culture club where we reviewed a book over popcorn and snacks. These experiences added a fun and social aspect to my internship, making it even more memorable. Overall, this internship was an invaluable opportunity that provided me with hands-on insight into a potential creative career. I loved every moment and will cherish this experience. I'm incredibly grateful for everything I learned and experienced during my time at Wonderhood Studios and to The Brokerage for making it all possible. THANKS EVERYONE 🫶🏾🫶🏾!!!!!! Look out for more of my posts on specific projects and highlights of my internship😆😆 #dream #internship #thebrokerage #advertising #creative
