🏢The new WORKTECH Academy article examines New York's commercial development landscape, which has recently experienced a few notable trends, including a slowdown in new development and a decline in coworking activity. The focus has increased on mixed-use development, adaptive reuse, sustainability, affordable housing, and tech space. According to Savills’ Manhattan Q3 2024 Office Report, Manhattan’s office leasing is experiencing a resurgence. An increase in office employees is possible, with research from 2023 showing that just half (52 per cent) of Manhattan workers are present in the workplace on an average weekday. The two-day New York WORKTECH conference, which will be held from Tuesday, 8, to Wednesday, 9 October, will showcase some of the most innovative workplace thinkers and debate topics related to hybrid success and New York real estate development. 💻The new WORKTECH Academy article discusses how flexible work has had a significant and irreversible impact on the merger between work and life. Mobile technology, which allows knowledge workers to bring work into their homes, helped create the topic of ‘work-life balance’. New government policies are now introducing a new era: the work-life boundary. The right to disconnect is a law that allows employees to log off and disconnect outside contracted working hours. It aims to protect employees' health and wellbeing from overwork and burnout. This policy has gained increasing popularity in recent years as a counter to the ‘work-life blur’ movement, as the policy outlines a clear guideline for communication between an employer and employee. 💡WORKTECH Academy collaborated with Satori , a data collaboration platform, on a new article discussing strategic partnerships to integrated data-driven approaches. The digital landscape is ever-evolving, and businesses are continuously under pressure to adapt and innovate to stay ahead of the curve. This is particularly evident with organisations managing global real estate and technology transformation projects, where constant change raises challenges to ensure that projects are delivered consistently and precisely across different teams and regions. Despite these challenges, the expansion of digital solutions in the market offers promising avenues to enhance project efficiency, cost management, accuracy and quality. The three main challenges causing the strategy to become disjointed throughout the project: · Communication: having effective communication across global teams · Process: being able to streamline processes to enhance efficiency · Assessment: performance assessments to monitor project and vendor performance. 📦The new WORKTECH Academy article discusses the pendulum-swing towards in-office working that is gathering new momentum this autumn, with Amazon’s decision to bring its employees into the office five days a week. Amazon is not alone in backtracking on the flexibility gains achieved by employees in the years after the global pandemic. Andy Jassy followed up with a memo to his staff that sought to soften the blow by promising everyone their desk in Amazon’s new working arrangement. Zoom, another tech pioneer, has been quite vocal in championing the importance of in-office collaboration. It has mandated its employees within a 50-mile radius of the Zoom office to show up at least two days per week. Zoom chief product officer Smita Hashim pragmatically told the BBC ‘If our customers use the office, we do too.’ Find the full WORKTECH Academy article here: https://lnkd.in/eUiW-mCA

WORKTECH Academy has just hosted one of its online Trend Report Briefings for its members. This quarter's report, ‘Breaking Conventions: Eight Key Ideas Redirecting the Future of Work,’ highlights the work of eight keynote speakers from our WORKTECH conferences in 2024. The speakers ranged from architects and global real estate heads to activists and academics. This morning’s trend briefing featured three keynote speakers in our report. All three speakers share one commonality: they break conventions in the world of work. · Jan Mischke of McKinsey & Company focused on the importance of making the real estate and office spaces attractive and worthwhile for commuters to make the trip into the office while also containing more mixed-use space. · Ella Hafermalz of the KIN Centre for Innovation, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) Universiteit Amsterdam, discussed the long-term effects of Gen AI in the workplace: " Without knowing what's possible, you can't put safeguards in place.” · Dr. Agustin Chevez from the University of Melbourne introduced the idea of workplace velocity and how to meet the challenges of the ‘new office’. ⚖️WORKTECH Academy recently released a new case study on the law firm Burges Salmon LLP, which has opened its newly refurbished London office. The emphasis is on striking a balance between tech-driven functionality and design aesthetics. Burges Salmon’s London office recently underwent refurbishment as part of the firm's OurSpace programme to improve all its working spaces. It now serves as a satellite office to the firm's Bristol headquarters. The space benefits from extensive experience mapping: as soon as visitors enter the firm, they are greeted by impressive city skyline views. The new design optimises natural lighting, while the artwork enhances the space further. Audio-visual technology has been employed throughout the meeting rooms in coordination with acoustic considerations to ensure a high-quality meeting room experience and seamless connectivity.
