As we wrap up this month’s focus on Women in Construction, Patrick Duffin, Production Director at Berkeley Group Plc, shares some powerful insights that emphasise the urgency of driving industry change. 🔹 The construction industry isn’t selling itself well enough to women. 🔹 We must showcase career paths, financial rewards, and available roles more effectively. 🔹 Cultural shifts on-site are essential – and that requires collaboration from contractors and tradespeople. 🔹 Companies are struggling with workforce shortages, yet many are only targeting 50% of the population. So, what more can we do to make construction a real career choice for women? Let’s hear your thoughts! 👇 #WomenInConstruction #DiversityInConstruction #BuildingChange #ConstructionIndustry

Raising Standards, Building Trust.
About us
The Considerate Constructors Scheme works with the construction industry and the public to raise standards and build trust in construction. We are a not-for-profit, independently managed organisation. To help constructors improve their behaviours, we have created the Code of Considerate Practice which focuses on three key areas: Respecting the community; Caring for the environment; Valuing the workforce. Those registered with us make a commitment to conform to the Code and work to raise their standards above and beyond it. Whether you are a member of the public with a concern about construction activity, a contractor or supplier wanting to register your construction activity to raise your standards, or a construction client who would like your projects to register with us, we are here to help. Construction sites, companies and suppliers voluntarily register with the Scheme and agree to abide by the Code of Considerate Practice, designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements. The Scheme's main areas of concern fall into three categories: the general public, the workforce and the environment. Visit our website to find out more or email enquiries@ccscheme.org.uk

A staggering 82% of construction and engineering businesses face recruitment difficulties." Our Group CEO, Amit Oberoi, was quoted in The Independent yesterday following the Spring Statement, highlighting the urgent workforce challenge in construction. The government’s £600m investment in training and £2bn for affordable housing are welcome steps—but as Amit says, they’re just a drop in the ocean compared to what’s needed. To deliver 1.5 million new homes, we need bolder action: 🔹 Ambitious incentives 🔹 Stronger educational programmes 🔹 Greater public outreach The industry needs 937,000 new recruits over the next decade. It’s time to step up. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eyZHdmQb #SpringStatement #Construction #SkillsCrisis #FutureOfBuilding

Is your construction site quietly falling behind? With up to 80% of noise complaints in urban areas linked to construction, the pressure to be a better neighbour has never been louder. AI-powered noise and dust monitoring is giving UK contractors a smarter way to stay compliant and community-friendly. One forward-thinking firm - Morrisroe Demolition Limited has adopted a cloud-based system that classifies emissions in real time and instantly alerts the team to any breaches—eliminating delays caused by manual investigations. With UK guidelines from the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) setting a Site Action Level of 190 µg/m³ for PM₁₀ dust over a 1-hour average, real-time monitoring is now essential to avoid regulatory risk and reputational damage. And with COSHH regulations requiring strict control of harmful substances like dust, AI is fast becoming a frontline defence against non-compliance. The result? Fewer community complaints, faster response times, and a measurable improvement in environmental performance. 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eM9ztzuk #ukconstruction #constructionindustry #coshh #aiinconstruction

The time for talking is over. The time for action is now. 🚨 Last week, industry leaders came together at the Considerate Constructors Scheme’s Industry Coalition of the Willing event to drive real, tangible change in safety and standards post-Grenfell. Chaired by Dame Judith Hackitt, the event was a powerful call to action - demanding not just promises but commitments from fifty key industry figures. Building Safety Minister Alex Norris was in attendance, observing how industry-led action can shape government policy. Amit O., Group Chief Executive Officer of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, delivered a stark challenge: 👉 “If we fail to act now, we will be judged—by history, by the public, and, most painfully, by the next tragedy that could have been prevented. But if we step up - if we truly commit to cultural change - our impact will go beyond compliance. We will restore trust in our industry; protect lives through our actions and build a future where safety is never compromised. To those not in the room: Change is happening. Now. The question is - will you be part of it? #BuildingSafety #IndustryAction #CultureChange #ConstructionStandards #GetBritainBuilding

The £600m investment in construction training, set to be announced in the Spring Statement on Wednesday, is a positive move towards creating the skilled workforce the country needs to build the homes, infrastructure, and communities of the future. However, more must be done to create an environment that empowers businesses to invest in their workforce. We need tax breaks for hiring apprentices and a reduction in national insurance, enabling smaller firms to hire new staff, offer competitive pay rises, and create more jobs. A career in construction provides incredible opportunities: a job for life, pathways for growth, the ability to work anywhere and to create structures that directly improve people’s lives. Together, we can build a more skilled, dynamic, and inclusive construction industry. Let’s seize this moment to shape the future of our sector and Get Britain Building. #GetBritainBuilding #GBB #SkillsForGrowth #FutureOfConstruction #Apprenticeships #ConstructionCareers

This week, our monitor Jo Rieny carried out our first trackside visit for TRU West – a key milestone in our involvement with this transformative project. Many thanks to the TRU team for hosting the visit safely and sharing such valuable insight into the trackside works. The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a multi-billion-pound rail programme set to revolutionise journeys across the North, improving connections between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York. Jo is a fantastic example of women making an impact in construction and infrastructure, and we’re proud to have her representing us on such a significant scheme. #TRU #TranspennineRouteUpgrade #WomenInConstruction #RailInfrastructure #SiteVisit #ConstructionCareers #CCS
