🎉 We were thrilled that the voco Zeal Exeter Science Park won the Sustainability category in last night's first-ever Business of the Year Awards in the South West organised by TheBusinessDesk.com.   The judges said: “We discussed and debated the merits of each entry and it was a very tough job to narrow them down to create the shortlist then choose the winners for the first Business of the Year Awards in the South West. “It was fantastic to recognise businesses from across the region who represent the very best. Last Friday we hosted a group of MBA climate leadership students visiting the UK from South Africa. The trip which was organised by the University of Exeter aimed to explore innovative practices and solutions that align economic growth with environmental stewardship. By engaging with industry leaders and visiting cutting-edge projects, the students gained valuable insights into sustainable business models. The group spent a day at Exeter Science Park where they met with chief executive Dr Sally Basker, who discussed the Science Park’s net zero ambitions. They also heard from Tim Wheeldon, managing director of Zeal Hotels | Mindfully Modern, about the net zero voco Zeal Exeter Science Park hotel being built at the site. Their visit included a tour of the hotel, which is due to be completed in December. The group, who were visiting from the GIBS Business School (Gordon Institute of Business Science) at the University of Pretoria , also heard talks from Naomi Harnett, East Devon District Council; Roli Martin BSc Hons FCA, Global City Futures; and Exeter Science Park based companies Quanterra Systems and Oxi-Tech Solutions Limited. I was reassured by the growing interest from investors in #ESG-aligned assets at the recent IHIF event in Berlin.   We had a number of promising meetings with owners eager to join us on our ESG journey. The voco Zeal Exeter Science Park will generate more energy than it will consume, every year and we are rewriting the rule book in terms of construction and operations in the hotel sector.   ESG investment to comply with policy and law is a fundamental requirement for hotels and I am sure this will drive greater emphasis on ESG at future conferences.     For further information on our project, please visit: www.zealhotels.com   #IHIFEMEA24 #hotels #sustainability #netzerocarbon
