Running a marathon is tough. Running it while beating a world record time? Even tougher. Doing it strapped together in a 10-person test tube costume? That takes teamwork, coordination, and grit to a whole new level. Our CEO, Graham Sturge MCIOB, alongside an incredible team - including Claire Short, Simon Short, Jodi Simpson, Paul Owen, Fran Setterfield, Chris Setterfield, Julie Pritchett, Richard Yeeles, and Marcela Bell - are taking on this extraordinary challenge at the 2025 TCS London Marathon. Together, they’re aiming to break the record for the fastest marathon run by a 10-person costume (currently 6 hours, 32 minutes, and 5 seconds) in support of Pancreatic Cancer UK, a charity with a cause close to us at RED. This challenge is about more than just speed - it's about teamwork, perfect coordination, and the mental and physical resilience to stay in sync for over 26 miles. Thanks to our sponsor’s incredible generosity, your support is helping fund crucial early-detection research, bringing us one step closer to beating one of the deadliest cancers. And a huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Help us reach our £100,000 goal! Every donation, big or small, makes a difference. Our Special Projects team have completed their considered conversion of Mayfair’s own 21-25 Bruton Place, located in the renowned Berkeley Square. As construction partners to Berkeley Estate Asset Management, the team transformed three existing mews properties spanning 15,000 sq ft into a unified mix-use building. It was crucial to both BEAM and our team that we adopted a sustainable and innovative approach, whilst retaining the architectural character of the area. We are proud to say our team delivered to a high specification. Our works focused on introducing modern design elements and performance whilst staying true to the area’s distinct aesthetic. The project included the removal of existing structural roof and floor slabs, the retention of the front and rear façades, the construction of an external terrace, and the internal installation of a new steel frame alongside an additional Glulam / Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) single storey extension at roof level. On Wednesday, our London team came together to celebrate the topping out of 40 Broadway, a 130,000 sq ft Grade-A office development in Westminster. The project will feature a ground-floor café and terraces on most floors, as well as a Portuguese natural stone front façade and traditional hand-set brickwork at the rear. It is targeting BREEAM Excellent and WELL Platinum certifications. Following tradition, the ceremony was held on the building's highest point where guests enjoyed panoramic rooftop views of London’s iconic landmarks, including St James Park and Westminster Abbey, all whilst the sun was shining, making the backdrop even more memorable. To mark this major milestone — the completion of the building’s structure — our CEO Graham Sturge MCIOB, Executive Director Ian Hopkinson, and James Burchell, client and co-founder of Tellon Capital LLP, delivered speeches, thanking everyone involved for their hard work and dedication. The celebration concluded with the traditional concrete pour and ceremonial steel signing by all attendees. Adding a historical touch, two characters dressed as Henry VIII and Jester were present during the event, with Henry VIII fittingly opening the ceremony, a nod to the area’s Tudor heritage as a key center of power during his reign. #REDConstruction #REDLondonTeam #London #ToppingOutCeremony #Construction #CommercialBuilding 📸 Neale Else

Our London team is making great progress on the redevelopment at 55 Pall Mall - located in Westminster, home to some of London's most iconic landmarks as seen from the project’s rooftop. The primary structural works are now complete, bringing us closer to finalising the building’s envelope. The masonry façade and mansard are now being installed on Crown Passage whilst roofing works are advancing on the external terraces, the main roof, and the roof plant space with the Structural Framing System (SFS) being progressed on all elevations - marking a significant step for the project's progress. With added support to equalise floor heights across both facades, previously removed and retained stonework is currently being re-installed on the Pall Mall façade to preserve the building's original front exterior. Internally, fit-out works have kicked off from L1 upwards, with key roof plant deliveries underway to the top floors. In the coming weeks, the team will focus on mechanical and electrical installations, window fitting along Crown Passage, and further façade and roofing works as well as the installation of pre-fabricated windows. Our South West team celebrated a major milestone at Alumno ’s Hollis Wharf in Bath, topping out the student accommodation development set for completion in late summer 2025. The milestone was attended by our South West Managing Director Derek Quinn, David Campbell from Alumno, AWW and representatives of the council, with the planning application being supported by the University of Bath and Bath Spa who welcome the need for PBSA to free up housing for local people. The £13m Hollis Wharf development will deliver 120 high-quality studios and cluster bedrooms, modern amenities, and ground-floor commercial space, while also serving as a new storage and distribution hub for Mercy in Action—all within a sustainable, mixed-use community that complements Bath’s historic riverside setting. We are excited to share photos our completion of phase one of Royal Cambridge Care Home —a state-of-the-art 32-bed facility now home to residents in East Molesey. Delivered for The Sheppard Trust, this project marks a major milestone in our commitment to providing high-quality senior living accommodation. Phase One involved the demolition of approximately two-thirds of the existing building, making way for a modern facility with extensive communal spaces, landscaped gardens, and parking. Each bedroom was designed with an en-suite bathroom featuring a walk-in shower, while rooms were arranged in groups that shared a country kitchen, lounge, assisted bathroom, and a quiet room, creating a warm and supportive living environment. With Phase One now complete and residents settled into their new homes, we are proud to continue our partnership with The Sheppard Trust as Phase Two is now underway. This next stage of the redevelopment will see the creation of Elizabeth Court, a 61-bedroom facility designed to support independent living with care when needed, featuring modern apartments, communal areas, garden spaces, and parking. Our South West team have now completed a milestone project, the 4-star voco Zeal Exeter Science Park, finalising the construction of the UK’s first branded Net Zero Carbon hotel. Innovations in the design and construction mean the hotel is operating with industry-leading benchmark-setting Energy Use Intensity (EUI) levels, a critical measure that will define building sustainability in the decades to come. The 100% electric hotel is a prototype for what’s possible and evidence of how our expertise can help deliver projects that put the South West’s innovation on the map nationally. Implementing the UK’s first vertical photovoltaic cladding system, we have ensured voco Zeal Hotel generates more solar energy each year than the building consumes, integrated into multiple facades in a way that enhances the hotel’s overall design. Our South West’s Managing Director, Derek Quinn, commented “Zeal hotel has got to be an exemplar for all new build hotels, highlighting what is achievable when collaboration and ambition meet.” Huge congratulations to the whole project team, this is certainly one to remember! Last month, our very own James Devey took part in Insider Media’s first roundtable of the year, representing our South West team in discussion with leaders across the region. The conversation looked at expectations for 2025, including priorities, challenges, new markets, growth, and the potential impact of impending government changes on a variety of sectors. Thanks to Insider Media’s Chris Ward for inviting James to join and Allianz for hosting, recognising the huge role construction plays for the region’s economy, and also for bringing together a great collection of spokespeople who really champion the South West.
