How can clinical need inspire innovation? For Louise Allen it was early detection of visual problems in children. Louise has explored how to improve screening in children, through a physical device and a web-app. “As clinicians we are aware of the clinical need, and we are in one of the best positions to try and meet that demand.” Amit Agrawal had a similar experience at being face-to-face with the problem in surgery, and that often the problem is a lack of time to think about how it could be solved more effectively. Amit is working on an innovation to help in breast surgery, creating a more effective solution for operating on soft tissue. Also in the video, we discussed: • What led you to pursue your own innovation, rather than trying to buy something in? • How did you work out that there was a market for your innovation? • Did you experience competition from other innovators operating in your space? To watch the video in full and connect with our network of innovation facilitators, join the clinical innovators network for free on Connect: Health Tech 👉 https://lnkd.in/e9Nbkvqa #JoinTheDots #ClinicalInnovator #Translation #Investment

Connect: Health Tech is delighted to support this revolutionary Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) collaboration to engineer a new generation of neuro-technologies. From dementia and epilepsy, to depression and injuries to the nervous system, neurological and mental health disorders pose a greater overall health burden than cancer and cardiovascular diseases combined. Advances in neuro-technology has the potential to be a game-changer in delivering new treatments for patients. Connect: Health Tech will be #JoiningTheDots across the two programmes led by a consortium of partners from across the Cambridge ecosystem including the Milner Therapeutics Institute and Cambridge University Health Partners. The programmes are designed to convene innovators from across the UK to test new ideas and provide translational support for turning proof-of-concepts into businesses. Importantly, it is not just for academics, it is open to innovators from all backgrounds and all locations in the UK. 👇🏼 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eS929gy8 #Collaboration #NeuroTech #JoinTheDots

We are delighted to announce that we have joined a three-year collaboration with the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) and multiple Cambridge partners, to engineer a new generation of neuro-technologies designed to treat depression, dementia, chronic pain, epilepsy and injuries to the nervous system. Neurological and mental health disorders will affect four in every 5 people in their lifetimes, and present a greater overall health burden than cancer and cardiovascular disease combined. There are currently 28 million people living with chronic pain in the UK, and 1.3 million people with traumatic brain injury. Neuro-technology – where technology is used to control the nervous system – has the potential to deliver revolutionary new treatments for these disorders. This partnership will consider supporting any precise neuro-technology with the potential to solve a global health problem. The technology can be in the form of electronic brain implants that reset abnormal brain activity or help deliver targeted drugs more effectively, brain-computer interfaces that control prosthetic limbs, or cutting-edge technologies that train the patient’s own cells to fight disease. The new partnership includes two programmes: one to bring together innovators from around the UK with exciting ideas in neuro-technology, and provide funding to rapidly test their idea in Cambridge, along with mentorship; and a second for those across the UK who have proof of concept validation for their neuro-technology and need support to turn it into a business. The Milner Therapeutics Institute will enrich these programmes by providing access to lab space and mentoring support for the speedy development of disruptive ideas, and through their powerful network of academic, clinical and industry partners across technology and therapeutics both in-person and online via Connect: Health Tech. The MTI joins partners from across the Cambridge ecosystem, including Cambridge University Health Partners (CUHP), the Maxwell Centre, University of Cambridge, the Departments of Engineering and Psychiatry and Cambridge Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, the The Babraham InstituteCambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT)Cambridge Network and Vellos. 🚀 Fuelling innovation journeys through collaborative networks🌟 We’re thrilled to have Pam Waddell OBE from the Innovation Alliance for the West Midlands joining our panel to share her insights on fostering innovation across the region. Pam will discuss how the West Midlands is building a thriving ecosystem for innovation, in growing areas such as health tech and more traditional sectors like manufacturing, where businesses may not always see themselves as innovators—yet are continually pushing the boundaries.   At our last event in Manchester, Sue Cooke highlighted how companies like Paxman Scalp Cooling have successfully tapped into regional support to fuel their innovation journey. It’s this kind of collaboration and access to resources that we’ll be discussing further at the upcoming Connectivity Mix event. Join us for an evening of valuable insights, networking, and discussions on how to create the right environment to support innovation across sectors. 🔗 Register to attend the Connectivity Mix panel and networking event here: https://lnkd.in/dfwd4cwh A huge thanks to Bruntwood SciTech and West Midlands Health Tech Innovation Accelerator - WMHTIA for supporting this event. 🚀 Fostering Connectivity for Ideas and Innovation 🛠️   “In connecting with others, you can actually enable research to get where it needs to go faster. It becomes a team event and we need to encourage that team working and cross discipline collaboration. I believe in bringing the experts in industry who have huge expertise into the academic environment and having this cross-expertise discussion and that’s how we get more innovations.” Dr Cathy Tralau-Stewart, Executive Director, Milner Therapeutics Institute   Building stronger connectivity across regions doesn't just enable the flow of people –it’s also about the exchange of ideas that can unlock innovation. At the Connectivity Mix Birmingham event, we’ll be diving deeper into how improving connections and collaborations can create a thriving ecosystem where health tech innovation can flourish. Join experts and innovators from across the UK to discuss how we can support this critical flow of ideas, resources, and expertise. Tickets are still available, so register now to attend the Connectivity Mix Birmingham event here:https://lnkd.in/dfwd4cwh We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments on how we can strengthen this connected ecosystem ⬇️ #ConnectivityMix #Collaboration #Innovation #RemoteConnections #RegionalDevelopment #JoinTheDots
