A group of NHS clinical and non-clinical personnel joined forces to represent their trust and take part in medical based command tasks, gaining a valuable insight into the life of a Defence Medic. On a rainy weekend in June, teams gathered on a camp in Devon 🏞️ to experience what it is like to deliver medical care in a number of military based scenarios. Inspiring the next cohort of medical reserves, the civilian teams were expected to draw on their individual experiences and pull together as a team to deliver outcomes throughout the day. The day also served to increase awareness of the importance of Reserves amongst organisations who employ medical staff and how their offer and commitment to reserves really counts. The Medical Operational Capability Improvement Programme (MOCIP) was commissioned by the DMS Tx Portfolio Board and the Surgeon General, with the aim of improving patient outcomes on Operations, by optimising medical capability across the Operational Patient Care Pathways. We are pleased to announce that in May 2024, the programme in conjunction with DES formally appointed ‘Efficio’, a professional services partner, to support the rapid design of a future operating model. The programme will work closely with key partners and stakeholders during this period to ensure all plans are realistic and can be achieved as quickly as possible, guaranteeing the medical component of Defence capabilities are ready and prepared for any eventuality.
