Oman’s Hydrom is planning to launch a third round of auctions for green hydrogen projects in April or May. Unlike previous bids, it is aiming for midscale projects to woo a wider pool of firms and approaching participants from regions such as China and North America, Managing Director Abdulaziz Al Shidhani told Dania Saadi in an interview for Hydrogen Economist. “This approach ensures that participants interested in smaller-scale developments can still engage, while those looking for larger capacities can combine multiple blocks to scale up their project,” said Shidhani. #energy #hydrogen #Oman https://lnkd.in/euTXBjKP

Seven large-scale green hydrogen projects look set to move forward in Spain on the back of a major government funding programme, although the sector faces challenges in the form of cost overruns, construction delays and rising competition from datacentres for grid connections. “Projects are struggling to reach FID, mainly due to difficulties in securing offtake agreements and maintaining cost-competitiveness,” said Alejandro Z., at Aurora Energy Research. #energy #hydrogen #Spain https://lnkd.in/eQbzRHPJ

Speakers at CERAWeek by S&P Global noted the growing interest in green hydrogen, but warned that hurdles such as cost remain to its adoption at scale. “Sentiment is pretty muted. There are a lot of questions about resetting expectations, timing, and scalability,” Margaux Moore, head of the energy transition at Trafigura, said during a panel discussion, with Till Zeino-Mahmalat of OCP Group adding that “there has been difficulty in launching large-scale projects due to inflation and high interest rates." #energy #hydrogen #CERAWeek https://lnkd.in/ehsHgNVY

The hydrogen sector has moved from hype, to reality check, to full-blown correction, with some developers aggressively scaling back capacity targets and, in some cases, cancelling projects altogether. But here's why hydrogen's long-term future remains bright. #energy #hydrogen #energytransition https://lnkd.in/e8cx5p43

Collaboration is now key to the success of green hydrogen projects as developments turn out to be more complex and expensive than previously thought, industry figures told the Connecting Hydrogen MENA 2025 conference in Dubai, writes Dania Saadi. Developers may have contributed to “the big bubble” by overpromising and under-achieving when capex was high and the appetite for subsidies low compared with the support renewables received decades ago, said Mohammad El-Ramahi, chief green hydrogen officer at Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company). #energy #hydrogen https://lnkd.in/exaRmviZ

All the used cooking oil from all the McDonald's restaurants in the UK would not be enough to fuel one ship, Lara Naqushbandi, CEO of e-methanol producer ETFuels, told the #IEWeek conference, hosted by the Energy Institute. It's a valid point and a striking example—but the nascent e-fuels has challenges of its own, writes Stuart Penson. #energy #hydrogen #efuels https://lnkd.in/eqdBNcRG
