“Be yourself and challenge stereotypes.” This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating women shaping engineering. As this year marks IMechE’s Year of Rail, it is the perfect time to showcase the contributions of inspiring engineers in the sector🚆 We spoke with Charlotte Briers, Rolling Stock Performance Lead at Alstom and IMechE Fellow. Though she ‘fell into’ engineering, Charlotte’s passion for problem-solving has led to a rewarding two-decade career. Chair of Alstom’s Voices of Women employee resource group, Charlotte is a dedicated advocate for diversity and inclusion. Her impact has been widely recognised, including receiving our IMechE Verena Winifred Holmes Award last year. Charlotte’s story is a reminder that engineering is a field where perseverance and passion drive success. Becoming an IMechE Fellow was Charlotte’s way of proving doubters wrong. Her advice to women in engineering? “Just go for it!
