The recipients of this year’s 3Arts Next Level Visual Arts Awards and Next Level Teaching Arts Awards were just announced at our awards event! Congratulations to Next Level Visual Arts awardees Rozalinda Borcilă, Bethany Collins, and Riva Lehrer, and Next Level Teaching Arts awardees  William Estrada, Emily Hooper Lansana, and Andy Slater!   With support from an Anonymous Donor at the Chicago Community Foundation, the Next Level Visual Arts Awards honors three women visual artists in the Chicago metropolitan region who have received a previous 3Arts Award, Make a Wave award, or 3Arts/Bodies of Work Residency.   The Next Level Teaching Arts Awards honors teaching artists in the Chicago metropolitan region who have received a previous 3Arts Award in Teaching Arts or a 3Arts/Bodies of Work Residency and whose practice is in teaching arts. This program is supported in part by Good Chaos.   Both award categories include an unrestricted grant of $50,000. This program represents a unique concept in the grantmaking field in which past recipients receive a second award of a higher amount, reflecting the belief that artists thrive with continued investment at critical junctures in their careers and practices.

For the love of artists. No one has promoted this more or embodies this more than Esther Grimm (she, her, hers). At tomorrow’s 3Arts celebration, we honor our city’s artists and also Esther’s legacy at the helm of 3Arts, shaping the vision to support artists of color, women artists and disabled artists by granting cash awards no strings attached. I’ve heard directly from the artists the impact these funds had in allowing them to make greater contributions in our city and region. Esther is a dear friend, mentor, visionary, fashionista, conspirator and a joy! Tomorrow night , we pay tribute to her contributions and the great work of art she created, 3arts, and celebrate our collective community, which includes us all! In looking for a picture, I came across this photo from last year which also includes Cat Tager, who I got to know when she was Board Chair and her incredible leadership skills, who is also an artist and also another lovely friend! I will bring some tissues tomorrow night and will also cheer in what has been created! Thank you, Esther! Three cheers for 3Arts! Event info: https://lnkd.in/gn4x8jmW
