Ruth Elder (1902-1977) and her co-pilot George W. Haldeman (1898-1982) took off from Long Island’s Roosevelt Field in a yellow Stinson Detroiter monoplane named American Girl for what was supposed to be the longest transatlantic flight to date. This week, the Council on Public Transportation and AASHTO Transit Management held AASHTO’s Annual Public Transit Meeting in Salt Lake City. The meeting brought together state DOTs, as well as federal, local, and industry partners, to focus on public transit programs within state DOTs and legislative priorities. AASHTO also hosted an NTI-sponsored technical workshop for state DOT staff on FTA State Management Reviews, with an emphasis on Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program reporting requirements. Special thanks to the Utah Transit Authority for hosting a tour of the UTA FrontRunner Facility, where maintenance is provided for the expanding FrontRunner commuter rail fleet.
