We had the privilege to attend the first edition of the RAILWAY SAFETY REGULATOR (RSR) Industry Awards, and it was an incredible experience! ARC was honored to be a finalist in the Best SADC Region Initiative category. The event was exceptionally well organized, featuring a dynamic pair of hosts, an exclusive guest list, and insightful speeches from Mmuso Selaledi CA (SA) and other key figures in the rail industry. Congratulations to all the winners across the various categories; it was truly inspiring to see companies and individuals recognized for their achievements and hard work. Finally, congratulations to our partners, Traxtion, on their well deserved win! In this video is our copper train a few weeks ago, completing its journey from Harare to Maputo and covering 1,257km in just 74 hours! This impressive journey is a testament to the efficiency and precision of our rail services across various commodities. This intermodal operation involved trucks picking up copper from the DRC and transferring it to Harare, where ARC seamlessly took over the rail transport, ensuring rapid transit to the Maputo port. Beyond speed, rail transportation offers significant ‘Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)’ benefits. Rail transport produces far fewer emissions compared to road, reducing the carbon footprint of our clients. It also helps alleviate road congestion, reduces accidents, and minimizes the loss of both humans and animal life - while improving air quality. The positive impact extends beyond logistics, delivering tangible benefits to local communities. At African Rail Company (ARC), we are immensely proud to have played a key role in this pivotal step, delivering fuel through a safe, reliable and seamless rail to road transhipment solution. ARC’s expertise in intermodal solutions, successfully developed in partnership with National Railways of Zimbabwe and Botswana Railways, has now been adapted for Malawi and Mozambique, demonstrating our commitment to providing flexible, efficient logistics in the SADC region. As we help rewrite history, it's an honor to stand alongside our esteemed partners CFM Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique, our customer National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) and our consistent and reliable locomotive provider Traxtion in delivering this milestone. Major rail corridors, such as those in Southern and Eastern Africa, support regional integration by enabling the transport of essential commodities like minerals, fuel, and agricultural products. Rail offers a more efficient and sustainable alternative to road transport, which often encounters infrastructure challenges and higher costs. Succeeding in logistics here means navigating infrastructure gaps, managing cross border complexities, and meeting the demand for faster, more efficient delivery. There’s also a growing focus on sustainable practices to ensure progress while maintaining environmental responsibility. The logistics landscape in Africa requires resilience. Coordination between countries and navigating regulatory and customs complexities are essential for success. Businesses involved in cross border trade depend on efficient supply chains to remain competitive. As infrastructure develops across the continent, logistics will be crucial to driving economic growth. With expanding rail networks and more dependable trade routes, the sector continues to play a pivotal role in Africa’s progress. Sustainable development was a key theme, with rail recognized as one of the most efficient modes of transport for cutting carbon emissions. The industry’s shift towards greener technologies is set to transform the continent's transport landscape.
