Pediatric trauma care shows persistent inequities, with significant differences in outcomes based on race, socioeconomic status, and geographic location. Adolescents who are Black, Native American, Hispanic, female, uninsured, and Medicaid insured often face barriers to timely, high-quality trauma care, contributing to worse health outcomes. There are currently no clear guidelines on drug screening for adolescents during trauma evaluations. Current alcohol screening recommendations are outdated and adapted from adult guidelines, and studies show they are not consistently applied across different demographics and trauma centers. One effective strategy to enhance alcohol screening among adolescents is the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) approach, which has successfully reduced the incidence of alcohol use disorder by 20% to 70% in patients aged 12 and older. This model serves as an example of evidence-based practice, providing a framework that future drug screening protocols can build upon. Adopting a health equity framework can address these gaps, improve care, and ensure every child has a fair chance at recovery. Let’s push for change and equal access to quality trauma care. 🏥💪 Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/eyiuQyFQ #HealthEquity #PediatricTrauma #HealthDisparities #HealthcareForAll

Our centralized model enables us to quickly launch new initiatives drawing on deep expertise in healthcare organizing, creative communications, and marketing. Vot-ER (Vot-ER.org) - A nonpartisan voter registration movement that has organized over 26,000 healthcare providers and 700 healthcare sites to help non-urgent patients register to vote. Get Waivered (Getwaviered.com) - A program rooted in political organizing that is converting our nation’s ERs into the front door for opioid addiction and has helped over 5,000 clinicians receive their DEA-X waivers to treat patients with opioid addiction. GOTVax (GOTVax.org) - An initiative aimed at leveraging a get out the vote framework to deliver vaccines directly to vulnerable communities throughout Massachusetts via hyper-targeted vaccine pop up clinics. Action Collaboratives and Fiscal Sponsor A Healthier Democracy also hosts Action Collaboratives that allow healthcare organizers and groups of healthcare organizations to make progress toward solving complex challenges together. Our Fiscal sponsorship program helps social entrepreneurs navigate the winding path from vision to impact.

Addressing this issue is essential for improving overall patient recovery and ensuring equitable access to necessary services.
