About us
ASSA advocates for the United States shipbuilding supplier community on industry-wide issues directly to Congress, the Navy, and the Coast Guard. We ensure the shipbuilding supplier base remains a vital component of the United States defense programs. Our main objective is to provide suppliers with invaluable opportunities to network with senior decision-makers and to obtain government intel. We represent 23 member companies that are based in 24 states and offer 6 annual networking opportunities with members of Congress, senior Navy officials, and shipyard senior officers.

Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) will host an Industry Day to brief the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Mission Modules (MM) Development, Engineering, Production and Sustainment (DEPS) program on 1 November 2024 from 0900-1700 PST at Naval Base Ventura Country Port Hueneme. Tours of the Mission Package Support Facility (MPSF) will be included. Program Executive Office Unmanned and Small Combatants (PEO USC), LCS MM Program Office (PMS 420) will host this Industry Day to brief the LCS MM DEPS program and to solicit industry feedback on the proposed program strategy. PMS 420 is the US Navy's lead Program Office for the development of rapidly deployable modular naval capabilities and innovative small-unmanned surface technologies capable of recognizing, intercepting, and preventing threats to the United States and her allies. Programs include all efforts pertaining to small-unmanned watercraft (e.g. attritable sea drones capable of communications, data collection, logistics, etc.), various LCS payload delivery systems with associated mission modules, LCS training facilities, mission package sustainment, and all operating and integration software necessary to employ these systems. #littoralcombatship You can find more details and request to participate here: https://lnkd.in/gPc3mKkc

JOINT MMA/ASSA MEETING IN DANVILLE ON OCTOBER 21ST-22ND The Marine Machinery Association (MMA) and the American Shipbuilding Suppliers Association (ASSA) are co-hosting a meeting at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in Danville, VA on Tuesday, October 22nd from 8am – 1:30pm with a dinner the night before. We’ll be focused on Advanced Training for Defense Manufacturing and the Navy’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE). ASSA members convened at General Atomics’ Washington Harbour for our summer meeting. We had a lot of great discussion about supplier base issues for shipbuilding. Key events were: Navy Industrial Base Panel Matt Evans, Director, PEO Ships’ Shipbuilding Industrial Base Task Force, with two of his staff, Thomas Hughlett and Becky Doris Courtney Wolfe, PEO SSBN – Submarine Industrial Base, Manager of Supply Chain Coordination and Engagement Todd Loyd, Director, Carrier Industrial Base, PEO Carriers. Todd is standing up his new role within PEO Carriers Congressional Update Daniel Pedrotty, Defense Legislative Fellow for Congressman Michael Waltz (FL-06) spoke on the efforts being led by Senator Kelly and Congressman Waltz He reviewed H.R. 8515, a bill To Promote and Recruit the United States Maritime Industry Workforce. It is intended to promote U.S. shipbuilding industrial base produce (and crew and operate) oceangoing vessels at scale. Also reviewed the newly released Congressional Guidance for a National Maritime Strategy, provided by Senator Kelly, Senator Rubio, Congressman Waltz, and Congressman Garamendi.which covers 10 Actions for Congress, including growing domestic shipbuilding capacity and demanding modern performance expectations. Navy Secretariat Update Hunter Stires, Maritime Strategist for the Secretary of the Navy, gave a through historical review showing the importance of shipbuilding to wartime strategy and decision making, and the need for mass production of ships and underway replenishment to support Western Pacific operations.
