Sharing our hearts with western North Carolina ❤️ Our team at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Congenital Heart Center is working closely with a pediatric cardiology team in Asheville, helping many children with complex heart conditions. When the team heard that patients had lost their specialty medications, they jumped in without hesitation. Our nurses, pharmacy team and so many others came together to make sure these vital medications are available and accessible in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Together with our Med Center Air team and a local Asheville cardiologist, these life-saving medications have been transported to patients in need. In times of challenge, we are reminded that it is not just the medicine that heals, but also the kindness, teamwork and compassion that surrounds it. Our hearts are with all those affected, and we are deeply grateful for the chance to do our part in supporting our neighbors in western North Carolina.

Care everywhere, because everyone matters❤️ To help provide access to primary care for our community members in western North Carolina, Atrium Health is deploying our Care Everywhere mobile medicine units and extending our school and community-based virtual care services in Rutherford and Cleveland counties. These free services will be available to community members of all ages, offering essential medical care to individuals and families in need. When ground transportation isn't possible, and seconds matter, MedCenter Air takes flight to provide relief for those in need. Atrium Health’s MedCenter Air provides lifesaving care before a patient even reaches the hospital. Equipped with advanced technologies and state-of-the-art medical equipment, their skilled medical team includes registered nurses, respiratory therapists, paramedics and EMTs, pilots and more, operating a fleet of airplanes, helicopters and ambulances. Thank you to our MedCenter Air teammates for mobilizing so quickly to provide relief to those affected by Hurricane Helene.

“We bring more than just medical relief. We bring hope,” shares Calvin Harvel, peer support specialist at Atrium Health Behavioral Health Charlotte. Atrium Health’s MED-1 mobile hospital has been deployed to Tryon, NC, in response to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene. Activated by the state, MED-1 is the receiving hospital to triage, treat and transfer patients, as needed. The MED-1 team is comprised of dedicated health care professionals—nurses, doctors, trauma surgeons, paramedics, IT specialists and support staff. Wendy Henson, nurse leader with MED-1, says, “If you can make a difference, it’s completely worth it.”

As the world's first hospital on wheels, MED-1 is designed to provide comprehensive patient care. This unique mobile emergency department includes digital x-ray, ultrasound, lab, pharmacy, 14 acute care beds and a 2-bed operating room, among other essential medical facilities. Atrium Health is mobilizing its MED-1 mobile hospital to Tryon, NC, in response to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene. Activated by the state, MED-1 will serve as a receiving hospital to triage, treat, and transfer patients as needed. MED-1 is the world’s first mobile emergency department of its kind, ready for deployment within 24 hours and operational within just a few hours of arrival. With digital x-ray, ultrasound, lab services, pharmacy, 14 acute care beds, and a 2-bed operating room, it brings comprehensive care directly to disaster sites. The unit is self-sustaining for up to 72 hours and consists of nearly a dozen vehicles, including essential medical and support trailers. Our dedicated team of health care professionals—nurses, doctors, trauma surgeons, paramedics, IT specialists and support staff—will be on-site and behind-the-scenes to ensure that patients receive the same high standard of care found at our fixed hospitals.
