Take a Seat: Congratulations to the Red Hook Initiative (RHI) on the opening of “Street Seats”! RHI is a community-based organization in Red Hook, Brooklyn, that gives young people and residents tools, resources, and opportunities to work toward a more equitable and hopeful future. In 2023 the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Beyer Blinder Belle Foundation awarded its Community Planning Grant to RHI in support of “Street Seats,” an expansion of the Open Streets program provided by the New York City Department of Transportation and maintained by The Horticultural Society of New York. RHI’s Street Seats replaced several parking spaces in front of their Hicks Street headquarters to create a safe, accessible outdoor area for community members to use and enjoy as a public gathering place. In addition, the grant also supported the creation of “Farm Seats” at Red Hook Farms nearby. Click below for more information... And stay tuned all week for more great news from the Beyer Blinder Belle Foundation! https://lnkd.in/eFjBDdjj

NUL x @dezeen: We’re delighted that the Urban Empowerment Center is featured on Dezeen—see new photos of the Harlem headquarters of the National Urban League and its diverse mixed-use program at the link below. BBB partner Cassie S. Walker, AIA, LEED AP describes how the building’s retail, office, and residential levels are articulated and brought to life with varying facade treatments of glass, metal and brick. "Our residential facade steps in and out about a half-inch, and creates what looks like a larger window frame. It … looks like the windows move when, in fact, the windows stack," Cassie said.
