Well-supported teachers lead to well-supported kids. But too often, our teachers don’t get the support they need. Globally, we are feeling the effects: UNESCO’s Global Report on Teachers found that attrition rates among primary school teachers have nearly doubled between 2015 and 2022, with many teachers leaving the profession after five years. Today’s teachers continue to lack access to the high-quality teaching materials, learning resources, training and coaching needed to build healthy and thriving communities. Finding solutions to this problem will require centering the voices of teachers, ensuring they have a seat at the table in driving education policy, and getting them the training, coaching, and support they need to do their jobs effectively. This #WorldTeachersDay, we're showing our love for the educators globally who work tirelessly to help their students learn and thrive! Too often, teachers' viewpoints are not considered when designing and implementing new education programming. Today for #WorldTeachersDay, Benjamin Piper, director of our Global Education Program, and Luis Benveniste of The World Bank discuss a new theory of pedagogical change that can change this process for the better. By centering teachers’ beliefs within the design process, we can develop more impactful, longer lasting programs that help young students learn and thrive. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gGfpCFfi

2023 was a crucial year of progress for child health, thanks to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. With the dedicated work of the Alliance, 69 million children received life-saving vaccines in 2023 and 1.3 million future deaths were averted—which translates to 2 lives saved every minute. Also, 14 million girls were protected with #HPV vaccines – more than the last ten years combined. These 2023 numbers add up to phenomenal figures since the Alliance’s inception—more than 1.1 billion children immunized and 18.8 million lives saved. Sustaining this great progress requires greater support for Gavi and partners to ensure more children have the vaccines they need to thrive. By working together, we can safeguard all children from vaccine-preventable diseases and build a healthier, more equitable world #ForOurFuture. https://bit.ly/3YeOd5u

“Women are not a problem to be solved. Women are the solution.”👏 At the United Nations General Assembly, the foundation hosted a showcase highlighting our video series with BBC, Greater Than the Sum. Foundation leaders, like Anita Zaidi and Mark Suzman, joined women's economic power champions, like Dr . Stellah Wairimu Bosire, Sabrina Dhowre Elba, and Mavis Owusu-Gyamfi, to discuss the importance of removing barriers to unleash women's full economic potential. The stories shared in the Greater Than the Sum series remind us that when women have the chance to earn an income and take control of their finances, their lives improve, and so do the lives of their families. https://gates.ly/3TRWgm8 #WomensEconomicPower #UNGA79

Just like physical roads, digital public infrastructure (DPI) connects people, services, and opportunities in the modern economy. Currently, 1.4 billion adults—54% of whom are women—remain excluded from formal financial services. Digitizing financial tools, like online bank accounts and loan applications, can help—but these advancements are still out of reach for many women. That’s where DPI comes in. DPI works as an equalizer by connecting everyone to the resources they need in finance, healthcare, and beyond. This access becomes a pathway to economic power. Game-changing initiatives are already underway to expand access to DPI across the African continent and beyond. In her recent Ideas piece, Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa details the importance of investing in these systems—and in ensuring women have a say in their design and implementation.
