Be a Part of Something Beautiful: Mural Project at The Bridge! Calling all artists and creative minds! The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center is embarking on a special project to beautify our shelter and create a more inspiring space for our Guests. We're inviting you to be a part of this meaningful initiative by volunteering your artistic talents to create one of four murals. What We're Looking For: Uplifting Murals: We envision artwork that conveys a message of hope, resilience, and the journey towards a brighter future. Four Unique Themes: Each mural can explore a different aspect of homeless recovery, such as community, strength, transformation, or new beginnings. Passionate Artists: We welcome artists of all experience levels, as long as you bring your dedication and creativity to the project. By participating, you'll be helping: Create a more positive and uplifting environment for our residents on their path to recovery. Showcase your artistic talents and contribute to the community. ✨ Successful Lunch and Learn Event at The Bridge! ✨ We’re thrilled to share that we recently hosted a successful Lunch and Learn event on the third floor of The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center! We were honored to have esteemed organizations like S.T.A.C Court 283rd District, Nexus, and @bridgebuilders , join us. Our President and CEO, Dr. Woody, led an incredible presentation alongside our dedicated Bridge staff. The interactive session sparked thought-provoking questions and meaningful conversations, all aimed at finding collaborative solutions for homelessness. Participants were also given a tour of our facilities, where they saw firsthand the clean, peaceful, and welcoming environment we provide for our Guests—challenging the common perceptions of what a homeless shelter looks like. It’s our hope that everyone who attends our Lunch and Learn events leaves with a deeper understanding of who we are and the vital role we play in society. Most importantly, we aim to demonstrate that people can and do recover from homelessness, and we’re here to provide the tools for that journey. The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center participated in the DFW Airport Inclusion Summit on Thursday, July 18, 2024 🌟 Generous contributions of 115 items 🌟 The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center participated in the DFW Airport Inclusion Summit on Thursday, July 18, 2024. We were honored to have our President & CEO, Dr. David Woody; Marketing and Communications Manager, Sandra Akins Akins; Community Engagement Manager, Katerah Jefferson; and Development Associate, Robert Perritt, represent us. The Summit participants were incredibly inspiring. They stopped by our table to learn about homelessness in Dallas, the work we do at The Bridge, and how they can support our mission to make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring. A special thanks to Kim Wiemuth, Director of Client Relations at GTMS, Rossetta, Matt, and Drew for their unwavering support. Their generous contributions of 115 items, including bath towels, water bottles, socks, underwear, and body wash, are already making a significant impact, especially in this heat. 🐾 At our shelter, we are proud to be the only facility in Dallas that offers a dedicated kennel for the pets of our Guests. 🏠🐶 This unique service helps eliminate barriers for our Guests, allowing them to feel welcome and secure knowing their beloved pets are cared for. And this is one of the stories of healthy and happy dogs at our shelter. Lucy has been battling arthritis in her back, causing her constant pain. But thanks to the incredible support from our sponsor, Dallas Pets Alive, and our dedicated vet partner, Mazie’s Mission, Lucy received the care she desperately needed. With the right medication and treatment, Lucy is now pain-free and back to her cheerful, playful self! We are beyond grateful to our sponsors for making this transformation possible. Independence Day 2024 will be here in a matter of hours. The firework “shacks”, their sales, and the setting off of fireworks in my neighborhood has already been making the animals “uncomfortable”! Dr. Debra and I will be very careful with our sparklers this year… I heard an interesting quote this past weekend – “Life’s greatest tragedy is already being where you are going”. I was made to stop and think. Trying to connect those 10 words to The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center, and our Guests, was not difficult. Too many Guests with whom we attempt to craft “just enough trust” believe that they are mired in the best of what life may have to offer. And their desperation with managing such a state of mind is what we are “trained up” to manage. Again, that we would aspire to empower adults experiencing homelessness in Dallas with the tools to homeless recovery as they move into sustainable housing expects that we believe we can make the tragic fade away. There is power in relationship… Thursday, across the United States of America, we are offered the opportunity to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, when the United States of America declared its independence from the rule of Great Britain. Consider the vision of not accepting the tragedy of already being where you might wish to be. All this to say, thank you for maintaining a space where change happens. Finally, my best to each of you.
