Last Thursday, July 11, The Bronx Museum officially broke ground on our transformative $33 million renovation designed by award-winning architectural practice, Marvel 🎉 This project will create the world-class arts facility the people of The Bronx deserve and the Museum needs to further elevate and expand access to its vital free arts programming. Marvel 's design will seamlessly unite the Museum's buildings into one recognizable campus; create a continuous and fully accessible gallery loop; reorient the main entrance to the highly visible corner of 165th St and Grand Concourse; and add a new triple-height lobby space with an adjoining cafe. During construction, the Museum's North Wing remains open at regular hours—Wednesday through Sunday from 11AM to 6PM—with free admission for everyone to all exhibitions, events, and activities! This renovation was made possible thanks to: 💫 Funding and support from public officials and agencies including Bronx Borough President Hon. Vanessa L. Gibson, MPA (She, Her, Hers, Ella), NYC Council Member for District 16 Althea Stevens, Speaker of the New York City Council Adrienne Adams, The Bronx Delegation of the New York City Council, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services, and so many others. 💫 Oversight by the New York City Economic Development Corporation 💫 The team at Marvel 's brilliant design work 💫 On-site construction facilitated by Consigli Construction Co., Inc. 💫 And the dedication of The Bronx Museum staff and Board of Trustees, especially Board Chair Joseph Mizzi, Executive Director Klaudio Rodriguez, Deputy Director Shirley S., and former Executive Director Holly Block.

Marvel is celebrating the groundbreaking of a wonderful addition to the colorful tapestry of the Bronx– a new lobby and entrance to The Bronx Museum of the Arts! The site at Grand Concourse and East 165th Street officially broke ground last week on a $33 million reconstruction project designed by Marvel, with New York City Economic Development Corporation overseeing, and Consigli Construction Co., Inc. signed on for construction. This intervention re-imagines the entrance, connects the circulation throughout all the galleries and creates a unified experience that invites all users to be immersed into the spaces and the art. We thank all those that made this project possible and now invite community members and supporters to follow along as we begin construction! The recent announcement that $53 million of funding has been restored for arts & culture in New York City's 2025 budget made The Bronx Museum's bowling staff outing yesterday feel even more celebratory 🎉 Thank you Office of Mayor-Elect Eric Adams, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Laurie Cumbo, Bronx Borough President Hon. Vanessa L. Gibson, MPA (She, Her, Hers, Ella), NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, NYC Council Member Justin Brannan, NYC Council Member Carlina Rivera, NYC Council Member Althea Stevens, and the entire New York City Council for prioritizing this public investment as well as to all those who advocated for this action. The Staff at The Bronx Museum works so hard to make the Museum a welcoming arts space for ALL people through free admission and community-engaged programs. This budget restoration is a huge win for us, our audiences, and all the arts & culture organizations—big and small—that receive city funding. Speaking of winning... Bronx Museum Director Klaudio Rodriguez earned the highest score bowling amongst the staff. So next time there's a budget dispute, we know how to settle it 😎 #CultureForAll

It was amazing to host The Bronx Museum Emerging Patrons - Art Salon with Anne Parke last Monday. Huge thanks to Tara Downs, as well as Rachel Jennings at Night Gallery, for presenting on their current exhibitions. We were also very grateful to have our artists Elizabeth Flood and Jeff Way give tours of the space. We look forward to hosting more community-based events in the future!
