Design everywhere, for everyone.

About us

Marvel is dedicated to shaping public space, designing for institutional growth, and expanding economic and creative opportunities for a wide range of clients. Our architects and urban designers integrate the built and natural environments in every project—from infrastructure development and adaptive reuse to master planning, block building, park, and waterfront design, as well as multi- and single-family housing. We apply the same meticulous attention to detail to all scales and forms, with the resulting projects and spaces earning our reputation for sensitive and thoughtful design. Our strength comes from working with a diversity of clients. We have successfully completed projects for mixed-use developers, iconic retail brands, galleries and museums, public and private educational institutions, and city agencies. We have earned a national reputation for designing at the intersection of public and private space, from security bollards on Wall Street to a 550,000-square-foot hotel/condo situated in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Rather than specializing in a “look” or typology, our process consistently uncovers essential qualities of sites and existing structures and uses them to bring meaning to the new project through rigorous research and analysis. Our multi-disciplinary studio collaborates throughout the design and construction process to meet our clients’ economic and occupancy requirements, be it to efficiently address an immediate need or develop a long-term phasing and development plan. We are experienced at tackling a variety of challenges with innovative design solutions, as well as transforming ordinary projects into remarkable ones. After more than twenty years working in New York City and across the country, our team has pioneered an entrepreneurial approach to architecture and place-making that has been recognized by more than 60 design and industry awards from peer and client groups.

#MarvelMinute with Jason Jimenez, director at Marvel and project manager for One Clinton , the new 36-story, mixed-use residential development located in Downtown Brooklyn. At the intersection of Downtown Brooklyn and the historic Brooklyn Heights brownstones, One Clinton straddles New York City’s different scales and users. A minimalist, gridded facade clad in limestone and bronze gives the building an elegant presence within the varied urban context. Its distinct shape comes from its triangular footprint, its three faces address different parts of the city. The Brooklyn Public Library’s New Cadman Plaza branch occupies the ground floor with 26,620-square-feet of flexible space and a 20 ft ceiling. This library has its own entrance on Cadman Plaza, in dialogue with the civic scale of the federal and state courts and Borough Hall. #designeverywhereforeveryone #oneclinton

Check out this #MarvelMinute featuring Clara Goitia Molina, architect at Marvel and project architect for the Whitney Museum of American Art’s Stack Remediation. We explore our work with the existing chimneys on the north side of the museum and how we addressed signs of wear and discoloration.    The goal was to seamlessly match Architect Renzo Piano's original design. Joined by Tim Fryatt, partner at Marvel, Peter Scott, chief facilities officer of the Whitney Museum, and Christopher Falcone, superintendent of Richter+Ratner and project manager for the construction.    #designeverywhereforeveryone

Más información aquí: https://lnkd.in/eBb-pqdg —-   This masterful model was created to showcase a proposal that was submitted in response to a request for proposals (RFP) issued by the Local Redevelopment Authority for Roosevelt Roads (LRA) in 2022.    The proposed design is an oval-shaped structure with a center atrium inspired by ring-shaped coral reef formations, islets named atolls. In shape as well as in intent, the proposed designs draw inspiration from the reference to atolls, a natural restorative response to volcanic activity, forming a ring or mound of corals that create habitat that sustains marine life and can protect the shoreline from storms.   This unique vantage point anchors MBRIC right at the water, with direct access to the bay and the open sea, to the coastal mangrove ecology, and marine life while also visually connecting it to the upland mountain ecologies that are essential to coastal life. All components of the model, including the water and vegetation were completely done in-house at the Marvel San Juan model shop.    The design received an Honor Award for Unbuilt Work at the AIA Puerto Rico 2023 Design and Honor Awards. Phase 1 of our renovation at Playwrights Horizons is complete! The third-floor lobby and rehearsal studios have been reimagined with enhanced acoustical isolation, updated lighting, and modern finishes throughout. From reconfiguring the layout to upgrading mechanical systems, every detail was designed to create an inspiring and functional space for the artists. Debbie Balters, Architect & Associate at Marvel , comments, "The design transforms the space using light, texture, and mass. A soffit wraps the rehearsal room corridors, guiding people with directional light and culminating in a Turrell-inspired ceiling in the main lobby." Excited to share a glimpse of the new lobby space & studios! José Juan Terrasa-Soler, partner at Marvel, was interviewed regarding FEMA's new updates to its standards and maps to better protect communities from climate change related flooding. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eEVMHuZz #designeverywhereforeveryone

FEMA and the US Army Corps of Engineers are moving in the right direction to include the best science available in floodplain planning. They are also embracing nature-based solutions as part of the toolkit to manage stormwater effectively,” said landscape architect José Juan Terrasa-Soler, ASLA, PLA, a partner at Marvel, based in Puerto Rico. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has updated its standards and maps to better protect communities from flooding, which is only increasing with climate change. The agency says the new Federal Flood Risk Management Standard uses the “best available science” to guide communities on how to reduce their vulnerabilities. The standard expands their conception of the floodplain to reflect both current and future flood risk. The new approach also requires FEMA and states to consider both “natural features and nature-based solutions” when they rebuild.
