BRR and The Fresh Market collaborated to establish the client’s new design standards and an entirely new prototype. This Louisville, Kentucky location, along with future stores, features copper awnings, warm wood and glossy white tilework along the meat, seafood and grab-and-go counters. BRR Austin headed 45 minutes north to H-E-B’s newest Georgetown, Texas location. The 112,000-square-foot location will feature a pharmacy, fuel station and a car wash. The site visit allowed the Austin team to see real-world examples of detail design elements that can’t be seen once the building is complete. We’re excited to watch this project develop and look forward to its anticipated grand opening in Summer 2025. The grocery industry continues to embrace smaller, more efficient store formats. BRR architect Carol Ann Bartolo, AIA explains, “A prominent trend in food retail design is the shift toward smaller-format stores, driven by urban consumers’ demand for convenience and accessibility." This trend is exemplified by Whole Foods Market's new Daily Shop concept. “At just 10,000 square feet, this innovative concept is smaller than traditional grocery stores, offering a convenient yet comprehensive shopping experience,” says Mark Scherrer, BRR grocery architect. Over the past 12 months, I had the incredible opportunity to oversee designs for 3 of the many upcoming incredible Whole Foods Market stores, each with its own unique challenges and achievements. 🎐 This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Leadership: Almira Pehadzic, Aurelia Vanderzyl, Mary Beth Vultee, Jamie Olsen, julie joyce, Angela Mingo 🏬 Albuquerque, NM: This project uniquely combined shell and tenant improvement (TI) design, requiring seamless coordination between real estate, design, and construction. By optimizing the design to align with business goals, cost efficiency, and operational needs, we successfully delivered a functional, high-quality store within timeline constraints, ensuring a strong market entry and long-term viability.
