Happy International Women’s Day🎉♀️📚 On this #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate the incredible women leading the way in education—especially in foundational learning. Strong female role models play a crucial role in inspiring young girls—both in education and leadership. Yet, too many girls still face barriers to education, limiting their opportunities and the progress of entire communities. At the Hempel Foundation, we believe that education is a powerful driver of gender equality. By supporting programs that empower girls with foundational skills, we not only invest in their future but also in the generations they will go on to educate and inspire. When girls learn, societies thrive. We support education partners like Building Tomorrow who empower women in education—teachers, mentors, and leaders who transform communities through learning. Their work doesn’t just change individual lives; it strengthens entire societies. 📸 Swipe through to see some of the inspiring women from Building Tomorrow shaping the future of education! We enjoyed hearing Assistant Professor of the Practice TJ D'Agostino Ed.D.'s words about our forthcoming research project with the University of Notre Dame - Keough School of Global Affairs and Pulte Institute for Global Development, University of Notre Dame. In the video below, Professor TJ articulates why doing this type of research is so important to improving learning outcomes for children, improving the chances at fulfilling their potential beyond the classroom and into adulthood. Check it out!
Education is crucial to addressing poverty and inequality, but a global learning crisis affects 125 million children. A team of Notre Dame researchers is working to address this crisis and create life-changing opportunities through early-grade reading interventions, working closely with partners on the ground in Kenya, Senegal and Uganda. The team's research will inform global education policy and practice. The project is funded by the Notre Dame Poverty Initiative, a University-wide effort to create a world intolerant of poverty by expanding knowledge about how to solve it: https://go.nd.edu/abd4b8 Pulte Institute for Global Development, University of Notre Dame Institute for Educational Initiatives Global Center for the Development of the Whole Child TJ D'Agostino Ed.D. Transforming education in Eastern Uganda! 🎓💡 Our partners at Building Tomorrow are leveraging a community-centered approach that empowers local educators, families, and community volunteers - driving impressive progress in foundational learning. In 2024, our partnership reached 37,052 learners across 5 districts. 🚀 📚 An incredible 90% of participants advanced in literacy or numeracy, with 63% hitting proficiency levels—compared to just 6-7% initially. These impressive results are made possible by passionate community educators, local governments, and committed BT Fellows. 🌍👩🏫 Discover how this community-powered approach is narrowing the educational gap for learners in Eastern Uganda in this insightful blog post from Building Tomorrow: https://lnkd.in/dFnwkARX #Education #FoundationalLearning #AcceleratingChangeTogether #Partnership #CommunityImpact George Srour, Laureen Babirye, Kizaale, Sophia Menyhert, Luke Tyburski, Jyl Kuczynski Strong

At Building Tomorrow, the phrase "Keep Learning" is a guiding principle. We strive to be a true learning organization, continuously evolving not only in our programmatic work but also in refining our methodologies to create lasting impact. We are grateful to research partner uBoraBora for helping us do this! Take a look at the video below where BT's Quality Education Assistant Manager Mulondo Henry explains a bit about our research questions with #uBoraBora. Whitney Warren Munyaneza Edward Nuwamanya Dasan George Srour
Every programme has components that could be improved, and small changes can lead to significant results. Small tweaks can lead to big impact. We’ll be showcasing the work of uBoraBora grantees through a series of videos, so listen in to hear more on the 𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘄𝗵𝘆, and 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 improvements they hope to make. Today, we feature a conversation with Mulondo Henry, Quality Education Assistant Manager at Building Tomorrow . Henry discusses how implementation research is helping them to improve their flagship program, Roots to Rise, which adapts the Teaching at the Right level(TaRL) methodology to the Ugandan context. In their first learning loop, Building Tomorrow provided a sample of teachers and Community Education Volunteers (CEVs) with five new paragraph and story booklets paired with additional training. Henry and the team including Whitney Warren & Nuwamanya Dasan have used all the insights from their first loop, to inform the next iteration of the paragraph booklet, which they will combine with a comprehension assessment to get a more forensic understanding of what P4/P5 learners can do.
