To Aspen, #DisabilityPrideMonth is about embracing who she is with confidence, with #ServiceDog Jojo by her side.💙💪 "Disability Pride means accepting and loving who I am, while living in a world that is constantly telling me I am broken, a burden, and 'too much,'" shares Aspen. "It means that I am worthy enough to embrace my confidence and take up space. Disability Pride is the opportunity to promote inclusivity, embrace the beauty of life, and highlight the diversity within our community." We're honored to celebrate our clients, this month and every month, and the incredible dogs who are by their side! 🐾 ➡️ Help make every day Independence Day by visiting canine.org/independence24 #DisabilityPride #disability #disabilityawareness #advocacy #servicedogs #LeadWithIndependence #inclusive #diversity

🚨 Puppy alert! 🐶 Recently, our VERY FIRST litter was born at our new Canine Health and Wellness Center, located in Northern California. And just last week, they've reached an age old enough to experience their outside enrichment for the first time! The new building provides a portal that connects the indoor area with an outdoor space, giving the pups a safe opportunity to start building their puppy skills. This amazing experience is a wonderful example of what this new facility can offer to our future generations of #servicedogs. 💛💙 To help ensure more healthy puppies come into this world, visit https://bit.ly/4cBFsXK #puppy #futureservicedog #servicedog #LeadWithIndependence #veterinary #veterinarycare #science #siblings

🐕🦺 We're thrilled to share that #facilitydog Evans has joined the team at Baylor Scott & White Health The Heart Hospital in Denton, Texas! 👏 Canine Companions has had a longstanding partnership with the healthcare provider, and Evans joins an already existing group of #facilitydogs who support patients and the community across the network. #partnership #support #hospital #healthcare #medicalcare #texas #baylorscottandwhite
The eighth Canine Companions® facility dog has officially joined the Baylor Scott & White family! Facility dog Evans, has joined Baylor Scott & White The Heart Hospital – Denton’s trio of facility dogs known as the “Dogs of Cardiac Support.” The three help heal hearts physically and emotionally. When working, Evans is not only spreading joy to patients and staff but helping with healing as well. He helps with motivation during physical therapy sessions and walking after surgery. His co-handler, Meeghan Abraham, pharmacy manager at Baylor Scott & White The Heart Hospital – Denton, is working on ideas to incorporate him during communication on medication and discharge info – to help create triggers to remind patients what they have learned. ❤️🐾

#DisabilityPrideMonth 💪 Maureen Lovetro has been a long-time client of ours who's currently partnered with her second #servicedog, Yosemite. She shares what Disability Pride means to her: "I have been the recipient of two wonderful service dogs from Canine Companions. Drake in 2009, and then, Yosemite, graduating in 2021. I feel like Yosemite is the best part of my disability because if I didn’t have him and I drop something, I would either have to leave it there, find someone to pick it up or try to not to fall while reaching for it on the ground. I like to explain to people the bond between a service dog and their handler like this: in order to give Yosemite some water, I have to turn on the faucet. But, he has to pick up the bowl for me. This might seem like a simple act, but it’s something we do each day, and together, with patience and teamwork, we can get it done. If someone’s really excited to meet Yosemite, I’ll usually have them shake his paw at the end of an interaction or demonstrate him picking up an object such as a pen. Sometimes people even tear up. But, most importantly, he’s my best friend (dogs are so much better than people sometimes). Remember to lead within independence." Maureen is expected to graduate with her second masters in creative arts therapy in May of 2025. Yosemite will also get a cap and gown during graduation, and Maureen is currently teaching him how to bow when he accepts the diploma. 🎓🐕🦺❤️ 💪 Help more people with disabilities make every day Independence Day: canine.org/independence24 #disabilitypride #disability #disabilityawareness #advocacy #servicedogs #story #LeadWithIndependence

At Canine Companions, we believe in the joyful, transformative power of the human-canine partnership – in every form! More than one-third of dogs released from service dog training have gone on to serve as #therapydogs in their communities. We think that’s incredible, and we're proud that through our therapy dog certification program, we can continue to support and engage volunteers, while providing suitable released dogs with impactful jobs. Unlike a Canine Companions #servicedog who's trained in completing up to 45 tasks to benefit their handler, our #therapydog is a pet that accompanies their owner into specific settings for the benefit of the residents or clients in the setting and/or as part of a therapeutic intervention.❤️ Studies have shown that interacting with therapy dogs, as part of an animal-assisted intervention approach, yields both physical and psychological benefits to humans and the dog. 🐾 Learn more about our therapy dog program: https://bit.ly/3XMGUSt #petphotoday #therapy #support #therapydogthursday #thursday
