Absolutely legendary Joyce Cenali #imhighrightnow
This past weekend at the California State Fair Cannabis Awards was one of those moments where community truly forges history! The 170 year running California Expo & State Fair has added a compelling and globally recognized cannabis exhibition, and with the great leadership of James Leitz and the team at Embarc, this year added what we all believe to be the world's largest regulated consumption and destigmatization event ever to be smoked. The event was packed with customers and stewards of our community and for the first time in a long while, the expressions and collective sentiments were of enthusiasm and hope, and always of mutual admiration in understanding that California is forwarding the very best cannabis products that our nation has to offer. Over 500 products were submitted, several dozen companies including Sonoma Hills Farm received Silver and Gold Medals, and those that took Golden Bears were KIKOKO, Pure Beauty (x2), The Pairist x Huckleberry Farms, Glass House Brands Inc., Ay Papi x Huckleberry Farms, Arcata Fire, Space Gem, and Emerald Spirit Botanicals. Pause on that list of companies - some are generational craft farmers, some are long-term bootstrapped cannabis makers, some are fresher to the mix and have received sizable investment - but all are building with a focus on quality and excellence. This diverse tapestry is what makes California formidable. I was so thrilled for the opportunity to present the Golden Bear for Edibles to the ever-deserving Wendy Baker of Space Gem, whose brand has trailblazed in making solventless full spectrum hash infused vegan edibles since its onset. I'm immensely impressed with the team GreenState - Rose Fulton (She/Her) and Rachelle Gordon for pulling off such a polished presentation. Thanks to all of the judges Budist, Jocelyn Sheltraw and Claudio Miranda. Thanks to all of the sponsors Dustin Hoxworth of Fat Nugs Magazine, Beard Bros Pharms, Jun S. Lee of NABIS, Alec Dixon of SC Labs, Angela Pih of CCELL, Cookies, Department of Cannabis Control, United Core Alliance, Origins Council, and my team at Cannabis Media Council. And a special thanks to the Embarc team for bringing this to primetime. Dustin Moore Lauren Carpenter Ivy Merriman Courtney Zalewski Andrea Champion California at its best is what the world deserves and our community is proving it one hard step at a time. #californiacannabis #cannabisawards #californiahasthebestweedontheplanet

Ever onwards! Thanks Terry Stanley for highlighting the potential impacts of rescheduling for ADWEEK. Sky-high to see CMC Co-founder Joyce Cenali and CMC Members Embarc, Happy Days, and CMC Media Partner Surfside blazing the way forward. "Such a change could have a profound effect on marketing in the sector, industry veterans say, with more publishers and platforms welcoming weed ads. The Cannabis Media Council, a trade organization, thinks rescheduling will “open up more mainstream direct-to-consumer channels” that have previously restricted or refused weed money, per co-founder Joyce Cenali. Under rescheduling, cannabis companies themselves would be freed from a tax burden, the onerous 280E, that has not allowed them to write off everyday business expenses. (For the first time, for instance, canna brands will be able to deduct rent, salaries, insurance and marketing costs). Cannatech firm Surfside predicts “a 35% to 80% increase in advertising investments” in a post-280E world. Brands and retailers are already calculating the difference between then and now, planning to amp up their paid media. “The removal of 280E would increase our net revenue after taxes by about 25%,” per Paul Lepore, president of Happy Days dispensary on Long Island, N.Y. “This higher net revenue number, commingled with the ability to write off marketing expenses, would be enough persuasion to increase our marketing budget by about 200%.” Rescheduling could “open seven to eight figures in annual impact,” according to Courtney Zalewski, chief brand officer and CMO at California-based dispensary chain Embarc. “We don’t know yet if this will open traditional channels and ease advertising restrictions, or how creative and marketing departments grow as a result,” Zalewski told ADWEEK. “Our hope is that it will allow a new level of maturity and sophistication we have yet to see in cannabis marketing.” https://lnkd.in/evxYzYMu

We love you Kim Myles! "A huge reason I was so excited to join Cannabis Media Council and be actively, physically, publicly engaged in the work of cannabis advocacy is because I am a short, round, Black woman in America. So you can't scare me. Your judgments do not matter to me. I am Teflon. I am uniquely positioned, I believe, to live my best life — and that includes cannabis." - Kim Myles shares her #RadicalHonesty with fellow CMC Advisor Nancy Einhart for Vox's PS. https://lnkd.in/e2ZqW2Ms
