🌟 MEET THE GURUS 🌟 Say hello to Harrison Makofsky, Product Operations Manager! 🚙 Harrison’s role is to boost efficiency across the business. By actively gathering feedback from internal teams and customers, he helps engineers focus on high-impact work while ensuring customer-facing teams are equipped with the right tools at the right time ❤️ Harrison has spent his 8+ years at CG connecting with Gurus in his daily work and through communities like our Running Club and Scotch Club. In 2023, he co-founded AccessAbility@CarGurus to help further cultivate a culture that celebrates and harnesses the strengths of all individuals—including those with neurological differences and disabilities 🐈 Harrison and his wife are the proud pet parents of two cats and a dog — all with disabilities. After their Instagram account @MeetMayaCat went viral, they were inspired to launch AllWorthy, Inc., a non-profit teaching kids (and their grown-ups!) how to get comfortable with disability to build a more inclusive future #GreatToBeAGuru #MeetTheGurus

📌 DID YOU KNOW? Gurus get a 4-week paid sabbatical after 5 years with CG, and another after 10. VP of Growth Eric Richmond (he/him) made the most of his by taking the family trip of a lifetime. Even better: He could fully disconnect knowing his colleagues had his back. We’re proud to be a workplace that’s about way more than work 🐢 🚗 🚙 #GreatToBeAGuru

Vice President of Growth at CarGurus

This summer I took my 5 year sabbatical from CarGurus - a full paid month off in which we traveled throughout coastal Peru, the Andes, the Amazon rainforest, and the Galapagos Islands. We were able to time with Beth Richmond's sabbatical and the end of school to get our first full month (ever) completely off together as a family. Many companies don't offer this kind of opportunity - and if they do there's often an implicit expectation to stay connected and make sure your work continues. Culture lives in those soft expectations. I work hard, but when I'm off...I'm off. I left a lot of things in flight, but people picked up my work without question. I'm so glad to be at a place where I was not only supported in taking an uninterrupted month, but encouraged to be completely disconnected. Find a place to work where you can live your values. Thanks to CarGurus, Sam Zales, David Schafer, Joe Kenneally, Tonya Montella, Kurt Bolgen, and many others for supporting me to live mine.

It’s Friday, July 19th, and I’m finishing my second week at CarGurus. Someone asked me how I was feeling about my experience so far, and I thought I’d share with you all. Usually, I have an immediate answer, with words spilling out about how great it is. But this time, I paused, and instead of words, a smile appeared. When I finally answered, I said, "I feel relaxed." By that, I mean I feel at ease, calm, and assured. This is a different feeling than what many might experience during their first two weeks at a new job. Often, new hires are bombarded with information, countless awkward icebreakers, and endless introductions. By the end of the second week, you might feel good, but your head is ready to explode with the sheer amount of information you've received. You may still be unsure of where to go for resources and feel awkward meeting new colleagues and building connections. This is all normal, and there's nothing wrong with this traditional approach. But why am I feeling relaxed after my first two weeks at CarGurus? It’s because of something special they do to set up new hires for success. It’s not a fancy teaching method or icebreaker; it's something that isn’t necessarily taught in a classroom but is embedded in the culture. It comes down to this: years of building and continuing to build upon a foundation of transparency, growth, and a truly collaborative culture. These are values that CarGurus lives by, and you can feel it from day one. I've met countless individuals at CarGurus, from account executives and managers to directors and even CEO Jason Trevisan. I've come to realize that what makes CarGurus truly successful is the people and the environment they've created. It's common to hear someone express their excitement about being with CarGurus for 3, 5, or even 10 years. Their enthusiasm is as fresh as if it were their first day. Seeing their drive after all this time makes me excited to be a part of this team and to proudly use the hashtag #greattobeaguru. Thank you to everyone on the Cargurus onboarding + learning & development teams for making this two weeks nothing but enjoyable! #cargurus #newjob #culture #boston #massachusetts
